Southern charm of Charleston

Charleston is a bastion of nepotism and people milking their name and connections for "prestige" and wealth. There's not much incentive to do better or work harder there because of the culture. I love going home to visit my family, but I'm glad I don't live there anymore. Yawn.

Are Shep, Thomas, Eliza, and Patricia really somebodies in Charleston society?

Thomas is a raging cokehead who has coasted through life on family connections and money. He's the perfect example of what I described. His dad is a hapless good ol' boy and the namesake for the "new" Cooper River Bridge. Bless them

Patricia's attitude and demeanor are typical of society types in Charleston.

Shep is your average Charleston bro who is also coasting despite not doing much in his day-to-day life.

I'm not as familiar with Eliza as I haven't really watched the new season, but she has some things in common with Thomas in that she's the offspring of a SC politician. Her dad is a d-bag who used to hit on my under-21 friends at Charleston bars when we were in college.

Patricia is not a true Charlestonian. Whitney grew up in McLean. Prior to moving to Charleston right before the show started I believe Patricia lived in Larchmont. Or one of those other towns outside NY on the metro north.

As a native Charlestonian would say, Patricia is "from off."

Patricia mentioned this season that she's from a Main Line Philly family. Then she grew up in Virginia, but was a boarding school brat. She raised Whitney in McLean and then moved to Georgetown after her divorce, where she met the former chairman of Goldman Sachs.

There is nothing connecting Whitney and Patricia to Charleston. It's no wonder Whitney spends all his time in Los Angeles and only flies back to shoot the show.

She is AWFUL.

Also, Sacha Baron Cohen punked Eliza's dad last year

I don’t like this show now that they all have HGTV houses and I find all the male characters depressing.

I feel like they keep having to take trips because they have no other footage.

Agree, so boring.

A main line Philly family? Must be that part of main line that extends several hundred miles below the Mason Dixon Line!

As despicable as he is, Thomas WAS Southern Charm, the compelling center of the action as the show focused on his relationships with everyone. Without him, there’s no show. And no, I don’t want him back! I think the show should just go away now.

Hi Whitney!

(We know you Exec produce the show, which is the only reason they feature you at all.)

Huh? Why would Whitney feel this way? I’m just 60-year old normal Jane Doe...with an opinion.

It is really really bad now. It genuinely rly felt largely unscripted and wild in the first season and like they were all friends hanging out. Plus the Kathryn and Thomas stuff was crazy. Now they’re all getting too old for this (Whitney’s BEEN too old...). Cam is a mom, Shep is a pathetic mini-Thomas, Craig is likeable but mostly a loser, nobody cares about Austen. It’s just your basic Bravo show now where they go on trips to fight.

Hahaha! 'nobody cares about Austen'. Is that better or worse than being a loser like Craig?
