I'm Charleston born and bred and the guys on this show are like many I knew when I lived there. Charleston is a bastion of nepotism and people milking their name and connections for "prestige" and wealth. There's not much incentive to do better or work harder there because of the culture. I love going home to visit my family, but I'm glad I don't live there anymore. Yawn.
Are Shep, Thomas, Eliza, and Patricia really somebodies in Charleston society?
Patricia is not a true Charlestonian. Whitney grew up in McLean. Prior to moving to Charleston right before the show started I believe Patricia lived in Larchmont. Or one of those other towns outside NY on the metro north.
As a native Charlestonian would say, Patricia is "from off."
Patricia mentioned this season that she's from a Main Line Philly family. Then she grew up in Virginia, but was a boarding school brat. She raised Whitney in McLean and then moved to Georgetown after her divorce, where she met the former chairman of Goldman Sachs. There is nothing connecting Whitney and Patricia to Charleston. It's no wonder Whitney spends all his time in Los Angeles and only flies back to shoot the show.
A main line Philly family? Must be that part of main line that extends several hundred miles below the Mason Dixon Line!
