I am the OP. This is a soccer forum. I posted my observations about the USWNT. I was hoping people would agree or disagree and we could discuss. Instead, I had people react as though I were a sexist monster, make ridiculous assumptions about my life, and decry me as a doom and gloomer. I mean, I made simple observations! These absurdly over the top reactions are hypocritical and self incriminating. I have a stake in this game, and I hate the way it looks on the men's side and don't think the women's side looks good. It is as simple as that. Lol |
Unfortunately, you are right. This though will continue with this generation of players, because the lag still shows. Wait until they all retire (across the board), and the younger generation steps in (across the board). It's already showing in younger World Cups. |
| I hope the USWNT wins. They are not the darlings of the USSF especially after suing the Federation for equal pay. Their success is a blow to the status quo and gives them more leverage against the USSF. If they fail, it won't force the changes for the better. The men's team to qualify for the WC did not make the USSF make any meaningful changes so I don't think that a loss by USWNT in the WC would cause the change. |
A fair point. It seems though that win, lose, or draw, things are not going to change on either side of the aisle, men or women. |
|
I'm of the opinion that winning another World Cup will allow US Soccer to remain complacent with their approach for development and scouting. The fear is that our women's soccer program will remain stagnant looking for track stars of the next generation while European countries are developing both tactical style as well as drawing from a greater athletic pool than before.
I hope I'm wrong but seeing how everyone seems to believe we are playing well in comparison to Spain, France and England are not really watching the same game. We are winning, but we are doing that through individual efforts and not through true team play as the other teams are playing. |
So many fans of women’s soccer are fans of the women who play soccer. It’s a oh look at what these women are doing. They are great role models, etc. Its more about feminism vs soccer. There is also a big following in the LGBT(more lesbian like the WNBA). So any criticism is seen as an attack. As soccer fans start paying attention they will ask questions about the coaching and players...that is what sports fans do. If you says Rapinoe is over the hill. They see it as you attacking a well known outspoken lesbian. For those who watch a lot of soccer, she fails the eye test. The US style of play is outdated but will win if you have better players. Youth travel soccer does not select kids who can pass accurately and see the field well. The current team is a product of that system. Every once and a while you will get someone like Lavelle make it through. You saw what happened when Lavalle came out of the game. The English midfield took over. Now if Lavelle was in England, France, Germany, etc. she would be a much better player. Just playing around better technical players ups your game. |
+100^ |
Not a lesbian, not a feminist, not even a woman, heck not even much of a women's soccer fan. It's just that the posts from these "sophisticated" observers are so damn inane. Do you even listen to your own observations? The OP thinks winning the World Cup will be a dagger through the heart of US Soccer and that failing to qualify to the World Cup was also a dagger through the heart of US Soccer. One has to assume this observer would find a way to characterize every outcome in between the same way. You guys do realize you are commenting on a team that has made it to three straight World Cup finals? Do you get the significance of that and how your streams of criticism seem to lack perspective? Do you realize the coach is a defending World Cup champion? Should she be pre-emptively fired in your view. You are far from the first to observe that the playing style under current coach is not the most appealing. Maybe the next coach will bring out "the beautiful game" which will be nicer to watch. Will they be able to bring a team that is as physically and mentally game ready? |
We have athletes. We will always have athletes. We don't have the culture of the "Beautiful Game" nor the patience for developing it. What exactly is our plan B when the European Nations begin to match our athleticism? There is a deeper reason Rapinoe sat, because her athleticism is now being easily matched and by more tactically and technically better players. Rose Lavelle is the mode of player we need more of and she looks like a fish out of water on this team and is frankly wasted here. We can both appreciate the potential achievement of a three-peat but we seem to be ignoring the trajectory of the European teams relative to our own. |
Really it’s the same team for the past 3 world cups? I guess in your world the US team or coach can never be criticized. Even when that coach rolls out a formation that is weak against England’s strengths? It is you who lacks prospective. People are allowed to talk, criticize and ask for better play from that team and coach. They are also allowed to observe the play of other teams and worry about the future. |
So, one one hand, the team has been outplayed in several games, the defense sucks, the center backs are a disaster, we don;t mark, we can't shoot, we can't play a possession game, and they also can't volley? But on the other hand, they have "great players?" Internally inconsistent. Make up your mind, OP. |
I am the OP. That wasn't I, but it was someone or ones else who understands the game. We do have individually great players, but our system makes them less so. In a very short time, US Soccer has beaten the Creativity out of Pugh, for example She is a very young woman, and she is being told " do this, do this, and do this" thereby ignoring the instincts that got her where she is. She used to be a lovely take on artist, and now she just looks confused. Try to get this through your head: all of the criticisms I made were valid. The reason winning again will be a dagger is because the twits at US Soccer will now say " The women still win, so what we are doing is right". They are only slightly less thick headed than you are, which is scary. Had we dropped the ball in this WC, that would have been bad short term, but that on top of the men's disaster from the last WC may have forced some changes. Don't be offended just to be offended. Internalize what I am saying. You may disagree with my contention, but you are the one who is confused in analyzing my rationale. |
Have the European countries been keeping their best athletes at home? Damn nice of them. They must have a crush on Jill Ellis. |
Understand the history of women's soccer. Look at how the gap has closed over the years. Ellen White is better than anyone on our team outside of Rose. Her ability to lose marks is astounding. Seriously, watch her movement as the ball is coming in- she knew our backs were a mess and exposed them. . Had she clipped her toe nails in the morning , the game was 2-2. |
Yes, they were not encouraged to play nor were they given a platform to play on. The women's youth game is beginning to explode in Europe. You have no idea what is coming down the tracks. Ignorance. |
