Yes we have stopped going. Not worth it for us, but plenty of people here have tons of money.

You're paying $40 for national symphony orchestra. That's not expensive.

I saw the nso last night for $29, so ET is expensive. They are probably charging more for a popular movie

It prices out people who shouldn't be attending. Sorry if that's harsh!

They need to pay ME to brave the traffic to go there from DC, especially in a weeknight.

OP here. I just checked - I paid $777 last year to take my kids to see lion king in NY. It’s not that I’m cheap. I just don’t think wolf trap is worth it.

Lots of people pay $40 for their 5-year-olds. Have you been to WT lately?

We went when they did Star Wars a few years ago and were sat next to a family with three little boys who talked, whined, and were just noisy in general for the whole performance. Ruined it.

Yeah it's different when it's something that's more visual, you know like dancing. You would actually want to be able to see the stage.

Wow. I can’t imagine paying 777$ to see the lion king but would pay 40$ to have my kids listen to a live orchestra while watching ET. Isn’t it wonderful how we allnhave our own preferences?

Sadly, they are barely making enough to pay the incredibly talented symphony orchestra members a decent wage. These people work for the love of the music —they deserve so much more than what they are paid.
But I agree that it adds up quickly at that price, and I would go a lot more if it were cheaper. I think in other countries they subsidize this sort of thing in a way that Americans do not.
