Husband thinks I need to avoid pineapple

no it is not. ask your OB. hopefully they can tell you.
OH, and don't forget the cheese, most of the cheese is not safe either. no kidding.

Deli meat is supposed to be unsafe due to the same bacteria that we most often see in outbreaks from contaminated fruits and vegetables. People in the US don't normally discourage eating fresh salad greens because of the worry that pregnant women probably already don't eat healthy enough, but I know which I'd be more worried about....(and unpasteurized cheese is an issue. Not all cheese that I've ever heard.)

My point is not that i eat tons of deli meat and no salad while pregnant, just that it's worth understanding the reason for the recommendation and considering your own risk calculus instead of blanket avoiding entire food groups. The recommendation on coffee has changed since my first pregnancy, for example, and that's evidence based.

OP here. Haha. This is non sense. I am still eating pineapple and I ate plenty of steamed deli meat during my first pregnancy. I prefer advice from a doctor on this. I also don't live in Asia like my MIL. Just being in my husband's birth country would be a a huge risk right now. Everytime I go there I get very very sick and end up in the hospital for days.

“Steamed “ deli meat? What is that?

No credible medical site tells women to avoid pineapple. That is an old wives tale. The only fruit on the list is unripe papaya.

The deli meat/soft-serve ice cream is because listeria, which those contaminated products can carry, is one of the few things that crosses the placenta and is actually more harmful to the fetus than than the mother.

When I did IVF, I was told to eat pineapple for 5 days after implantation to help the embryo "stick" and then to stop eating pineapple for the duration of my pregnancy so my blood wouldn't be too thinned out.

I didn’t do IVF but did the pineapple trick after ovulation. I swear it’s responsible for both of my babies. However, OP, eat the pineapple. I can guarantee you’re not going to be eating anywhere near close to the quantity that might impact things.

OP here. Check out firehouse subs. They steam the meat. It was across the street from my OB office during my first pregnancy and my OB said it was fine. I think all the pregnant ladies from my OB office grabbed a sandwich after appointments.

Anyone else just curious at this point to know what else is in the pineapple fried rice dish? That sounds delicious. Pork or chicken?

Pregnant women are told deli meat is okay if it’s heated enough to kill the listeria bacteria.

You can choose from chicken or shrimp. It's really tasty. It's called pineapple Thai fried rice. I get it from a fusion restaurant.

The next time he wants to eat it tell him it decreases lifespan. Now that he’s going to be a father say he’s being selfish by eating it. If he asks for research, just repeat some version of what he tells you.

Turn it around.

OP here hahaha this is great thanks!

Eventually you are a mom and as such you should be doing all you can to protect the baby so if you could avoid something to be on the safe side, why wouldn't you? I know it is tough to be preggo and you have to sacrifice so much but if something will go wrong you will feel bad because it is so little and can go so long. I would trust the mother in law as the traditional food that is known to do something is well kept wisdom based on experience within certain societies and the common experience is valuable. You are wasting your energy and inflict conflict when peace should be welcomed. Why not give in a little? You are a good mom to be I am sure.

Not OP but check this martyr s*** at the door. Call me a bad mom if you want. Unless you have data I’m gonna do whatever I want.

Can pregnant women eat Pineapple? The answer is NO. Eating pineapple during pregnancy is not good so resist yourself from consuming pineapple during pregnancy. Pineapples are rich in bromelain, which can cause the softening of the cervix leading to early labour.
One can have pineapple in moderate quantities as it will have no effect on labour and delivery, however, its intake should be restricted during the first trimester to avoid any unforeseen event such as softening of the cervix. For this reason Pineapple is in list of foods to avoid during pregnancy. A lot of women opine that drinking lots of pineapple juice can help them achieve labour. So you must stop yourself and your dear ones from eating pineapple while pregnant.

Is your MIL in Bangladesh?? My parents are from there and my relatives have lots of superstitions about pineapple, whether you're pregnant or not. Like don't drink chai or milk after eating pineapple.

I'm convinced that there are different breeds of pineapples there that have some toxin (or some pest) that make people sick. My dad claims to know people in his village that have died from eating pineapple, so him and his siblings rarely eat it.

I ate tons of pineapple while pregnant with my third, like 4-5 times a week. She came on her due date.

Apparently it's an old in-law's tale
