No its not a conspiracy theory - Yes we are destroying the planet

My daughter was taught about pollution in the oceans when she was in Pre-K. 3 years later, she still talks about how “we should not liter because it hurts animals and people”.

Change starts with our kids and we should be teaching them about this from a very young age.

“We have never had a single unified statement from the world’s governments that unambiguously makes clear the crisis we are facing for life on Earth,” says Thomas Brooks, chief scientist at the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Gland, Switzerland, who helped to edit the biodiversity analysis.

Seriously? Capitalism has done more to save lives than you can count! From medical treatments, medications, safe means of travel, safer forms of shelter, quality food that has been tested, etc. Scary you don’t realize this.

well not to bring religion into the topic too much.... but if god did create us, he has the ability to undo everything, hit the reset button, so to speak, rather than sitting on the sidelines and watching.

but the planet has likely been trying all these years to keep humans in check. think about all the diseases that have come, seemingly out of nowhere, and humans somehow find a way to live longer.
Small Pox, The Plauge, Yellow fever, Flue Pandemic, Polio, Malaria, AIDS, swine flu, Cholera, Various cancers, Wars, ect....

the planet keeps finding ways to kill us, but humans keep finding ways to live longer.

Maybe Agent smith was right...

The environmental movement has to change it's message. We are not destroying the planet, we are destroying humans (and yes, many other creatures but we only care about humans). The earth will be fine after we're gone, we will be flicked off like a speck of dust.

Every time a human eats something, multiple times a day, times 7.7 billion people, is how many billions or infinity pieces of plastic that are piling up. We would need to go back to an agrarian society where everyone makes their own food, but people are enslaved by corporations. Corporations force people to put time in at a job and then they can't feed themselves without buying food in a store encased in plastic. It's f-ed up. Humans are really smart, and even more so really stupid.

We are trying to be a zero plastic waste household. I carry silverware with me for lunches out where they give plastic forks, etc. But we need companies to reduce single use plastic and to be responsible for their own waste. The oceans are full of plastic. We can skip the produce bag, always bring reusables grocery bags to the store, stop using and buying ziplocs and baggies. Would you stop using ziplocs to help your kids have less plastic in the their oceans in the future?

Many of those things are the result of government regulation, or government/nonprofit research. Unregulated capitalism led to companies selling adulterated food, which necessitated the FDA. When you buy a carton of milk at the store, do you wonder whether it will contain actual milk, or do you assume it will? If the latter, you have government regulations to thank.

Unregulated capitalism leads to companies charging a fortune for life-saving drugs that were developed using government investment.

+googolplex!

It is frightening how dumb and naïve many are when it comes to capitalism's immense benefits to society.

No one said anything about unregulated capitalism. They said capitalism. Yes, there need to be regulations. But the entire point is that the medication, adnavces in technology, improvement in building materials etc. I could go on. But you’re delusional if you think these advances and improvements would have happened without capitalism.

A better choice would be to never fly again and always take the bus or train to work. Not using plastic cutlery isn’t going to make a huge difference and is just easy for you to donso you do it. But for environmentalists to stop flying? Now that would change things!

Me too. I am not sure what action to take but i know reading about it and feeling bad isn't the right one.

My favorite was biodegradable k-cups that were all individually wrapped in plastic.

There it is, folks, the reason many reasonable people are skeptical of climate change hysteria. It is a too-convenient weapon in the global fight against capitalism. (btw, communist countries wrecked havoc on the environment, comrade).

The difficulty is in providing food in a way that preserves the integrity of the product without using plastic. Plastic is nice because it's lightweight for shipping, but it needs to be sent back to the company for refills. We need to write to companies or make petitions to get them to stop putting things in plastic. So much plastic packaging is to make the product look bigger and to put info to sell the product. The EPA is not really protecting anything. Companies should not be allowed to produce more crap that is bad for the planet.
