Agree. I understand if health somehow doesn't fit in the schedule or frees up taking a full year class, but tech doesn't make sense. It's also a class that's a real slog of busy work on a compressed time frame, but would be an easy period, possibly fun during the school year. |
Thanks for this info! |
For the tech requirement, it's either Fundamentals of Technology or Fundamentals of Computer Science over the summer. You don't have to do both. Each is 6 weeks with three face-to-face meetings. My kids are doing computer science. |
| PS- You don't have to do both semesters of Tech/CS in a compressed time period. Mine did one semester online during the school year and will do another semester (in 3 weeks) over the summer. Special circumstances, though. |
I would check with your school. Einstein seems to require that students finish Health by the end of 10th grade. Other schools may have other rules. |
Yay! I actually complained about this last year. I'm glad MCPS listened for once. |
this is not really a "rule," in the sense that no one can force you. But, most schools try to get kids to take it early (9th or 10th) so there is no graduation crunch. |
| Most of the online health sessions are full with a big waitlist, and I hear that traditional in class health is for credit recovery only. Is there a possibility that MCPS opens more online summer sessions? Who do we talk to? |
I have the same issue. |
Bullis School has Summer Online Classes that meet MCPS requirements. They offer: * a full year of geometry in 8 weeks, * MCPS-CREDIT health * Personal Finance * Writing |

Try Bullis. They have an online class that meets MCPS requirements. They offer: https://www.bullis.org/page.cfm?p=2000 |
I'm lucky in that we can afford the cost (although it's not without pain), but it makes a real difference in one child's ability to be able to continue with band for all four years at RMIB, and freeing up space for a class for my other child who is taking AP Chem next year (a double period). It's less than optimal to have to pay for a class that's in fulfillment of a ridiculous requirement (why can't computer programming or AP Computer Programming -- Java satisfy the requirement?) but it's not as simple a decision to take it during the year to save $600 for every family. |
Surprisingly, same cost. How do you know it meets MCPS requirements? |
