Yeah many machines don’t take coins anymore. WTF. |
| I've done this. It's aggravating. Just pay the ticket and learn from the lesson. |
| I’ve also done this. Pay the ticket and you won’t make that mistake again. |
| Where were you OP? If it was in DC it's probably a wasted effort to try to contest it. Sometimes MD and VA are more lenient. If it's not a big effort to contest, you don't have anything to lost by trying, except your time. I can absolutely see how this happened with the app. I've nearly done it myself (and may have that I didn't realize). I am sure it happens all the time. |

I would spend several hours of my own time and continue to ask the opinions of strangers to crowdsource solutions to this problem.
Stop at nothing. This self induced tyranny must end! |
| I have paid for the wrong car a few times. I always realize it right after I have paid, but there are no take backs. So annoying, but I just pay twice. |
| I parked in rush hour parking where the sign was not visible from meter (blocked by tree). In dc. Contested and ticket waived. You never know. |
This is a totally different situation. OP didn’t say that they couldn’t see the parking sign. In fact, they knew they had to pay because they tried. |
| How can you prove that DH's car was NOT parked in that zone? |
Because it's a lot cheaper for the company/organization that runs the parking meters. With coins, they have to pay someone to come and empty the meters and they get the occasional meter that gets broken into the money is stolen. These meters don't require anyone to come and empty the meters and there's no loss from thieves breaking into the meters. |
You can waste time contesting it and maybe somewhere other than DC will waive it but as I said earlier, I did this when I picked up my car on Feb. 15, 2018 and drove downtown to meet my SO. I parked and paid forgetting that I was in a new car. I contested, sent the receipt and explained and two weeks ago they responded and said f*** you, pay us. Good luck. |
| I did the same thing this winter op. I just paid the ticket. It sucked but it really was my fault. |
| I would write the letter. Include copy of proof you paid as well as proof of DH license plate. Even if it does not work you can feel like you tried. Then pay it an move on. Life is short. |
I really don’t like the idea of taxpayer money spent on having a hearing examiner have to deal with this, even just denying it adds to workload. Bottom line the car was parked illegally. I fail to see why this ticket should be contested and think it’s morally wrong to do so. |

had a similar issue. with an ezpass.
got a notice that wife's car went through an ezpass with out paying. had the transponder installed, but when i added her car to the account I missed one digit of the plate. hence it never got matched up. I was willing to pay the fine if I had to, but I successfully got it waived, and fixed the mistake. Id give it a shot, you might get lucky... but be ready to pay the fine. |
