Are there any private schools in GAITHERSBURG. The school assigned to the property in GBURG is rated a 4/10, her current school is rated 9/10 a bit more advanced than MCPS. I might need to reconsider this move.

Yeah, stay in VA

I tend to agree -- you're coming to Maryland with a lot of assumptions....

Stay where you are, nobody wants you in MCPS or in MD.

So why would you move to a school in MCPS that's a 4? Move to a school that's highly rated then. There are a number of those in Gaithersburg too. By the way, we moved from FCPS and I find the MCPS curriculum more rigorous.

Affordability

The problem is affordability and you are looking for private school recommendations? This makes no sense.

+100. And why would OP move from a GS rated 9 to a 4 REGARDLESS of which state she's in? OP, would you move to a school in VA that is a GS rated 4? What an odd post.

A GS 4 in MCPS is equivalent to a GS 9 in FCPS.

OP a GS4 in MCPS is VERY low. GHS is a rough school. Its almost as bad as the schools in the eastern county. I'd suggest looking in the QO cluster if you can afford something there or even NW. These areas will also bring closer to DC, VA and Rockville/Bethesda if you working there.

If you are working somewhere in MoCo, you could also consider Frederick or Howard. Those school system are now better than MCPS. MCPS is declining and GHS is already one of the worst schools.

Curious.. what is your "personal" experience with MCPS if you live in FCPS?

There are many many schools in MCPS. If you don't want a GS rated 4, there are other much higher rated schools in MCPS. Why do you *have* to live in the GS 4 cluster? You can live a few miles away from your target area where there are schools rated much higher?

No it's a genuine question. If OP is coming from a GS 9 school, then obviously a GS 4 school regardless of where it is, is going to be disappointing. You would think OP would find a higher rated school which there are plenty of in MCPS but instead she chooses to compare her GS rated 9 school to the GS rated 4 school and concludes that fcps is better than mcps.

Whitman which is one of the affluent segregated schools is a GS 4 based on its test scores, but sure that doesn't tell the whole story.

What's your point now? OP is talking about overall GS rated score and a school that's located in Gaithersburg. How is this relevant to Whitman?

GS scores are meaningless. They don't measure each school well much less act as a good comparison between schools.

A lot of people in Gaithersburg do send their kids to private schools. You can read in the private school forum. Some that might be close are Christ Episcopal in Rockville and Barnesville School. There are many others. But beware they are expensive and if you are hoping for UMCP, it is harder to get in from many privates as they don’t push APs and have stricter grading policies. Not many 4.3s running around at the privates.

Mcps is over half underperformers at 1-3 grade levels below where they should be at. They are solely focused on these bottom half of students - esol, farms, under performers- and closing the achievement gap from both sides. They cut the magne t program admits to make a large section for diversity and highly able URMs.
