Is Compacted Math 4/5 using the Eureka NY curriculum?

They shouldn't be different. Curriculum should be standard across the district. It's upsetting that MCPS would spend all this time picking a new math curriculum, only to use the crappy old one for the high-performing kids.

But we already know it's not going to be standard next year. These are the only elementary schools in Cohort 1 to implement the new curriculum for math:

Yes, of course -- but that's temporary because they are rolling out the new curriculum. My issue is with the compacted math curriculum because they seem to have no timeline as to when they will transition that off of curriculum 2.0.

Are there any focus or title one schools on that list? Ironic since low income students are supposedly the ones suffering the most under 2.0.

Harmony Hills, Weller Road, and Wheaton Woods are all title I schools. Might want to check data before making allegations.

That is the funniest thing I’ve read! Are you new to MCPS? The person in charge (Erik Lang?) moves on to a fantastic job in the private sector after screwing up the MCPS curriculum big time. Nobody is ever held responsible in MCPS. They send out placating emails and move along as if everything is fine.

Georgian Forest and Oak View are too.

The current curriculum is probably doing ok for the kids in compact math since testing well got them to compact math...no? My guess is that have to figure out to do the second year since the curriculum must change. They will have a better grasp on that after using both curriculum s for a year. A parent could always choose not to do compacted math to get the new curriculum. Kids get to 7th grade algebra both ways.

I'm actually far less upset with MCPS than most parents on this board; however, this is the sort of thing that blisters my paint because it's something they could have easily addressed sooner than later.

I have some insight into the process (but am not an MCPS employee), and their hands were kind of tied on this one. The vendor does not have a compacted curriculum because Math 4/5 is kind of an MCPS specific approach. So...they chose the overall strongest curriculum knowing it would be a year before the curriculum vendor could create a compacted version. Given the timeline, there was just no way to get it into as many K-3 classrooms as possible AND the Math 4 and Math 5 classrooms and roll out compacted simultaneously. It's a shame, and I understand the frustration, but I'd rather they use the current curriculum, warts and all, than rush a compacted version into the classroom that hasn't been prepared correctly.

CES is not the same as compacted math. Some CES kids do not test into 4/5 math.
