They are less likely to have traditional gender norms. |
I am Eastern European too, we put the first woman in space and proud of it. I think in places that were formerly subjugated (esp. by Ottomans) some of the cultures put a huge premium on having boys. |
But a boy you'd be raising is one you could teach that might isn't right, men can have and express valid emotions beyond anger, how to treat women like humans, etc. Parental influence isn't everything, but I think raising boys is a great opportunity and privilege. |
ADHD and schizophrenia run in my family. While females in my family are sometimes very mildly affected, the worst cases are the males. Uncles, brothers, and male cousins. My mother used to say it was a family curse. I was on the fence about having kids because I was terrified of having boys. |
I think it’s more that you now have “one of each.” If you had 2 of the same sex (no matter if it was boys or girls), people would be asking if you want a 3rd so you can “try for” a (boy/girl).
I think there’s just as many people who prefer girls (do better in school, less risk of autism/developmental delays, cuter clothes, the whole “mini-me” thing) vs. boys (carry on the family name, less risk of them being abuse victims, “easier”). But that’s a change from even maybe 2 generations ago when boys were strongly preferred. |
how old are you? i am eastern european, too, and all women i know want(ed) girls. |
Most people I know are happy to have a healthy baby. Boy or girl is much less important than being on good health.

When my son was born people said stuff like, "little boys love their moms". Which is sweet, but obviously girls do too! I just thought it was an interesting thing to say, and like someone mentioned, people just making small talk.
Now I have a girl and I do get a lot of the "one of each" stuff. |
Statistically you are right. Individual results may vary. Also, one has to put up with their occasional hysterical nonsense. -signed, father of 3 girls; the oldest of whom has high-functioning-autism (and it took until age 9 to properly Dx!) |
I have a boy and I've heard that a lot! Always seemed weird to me too, |
then they grow up and throw it all away on some man to be a sahm. so no big win there. |

Except, I didn’t grow up poor. Why would you think that? You don’t want a boy becaus men are dangerous? You need therapy. |
Don’t be dumb. |
