Driving pet peeves

- learn to effing park! don't park more than a foot away from the curb, or on the line in a parking lot!
- slower traffic keep right, people
- don't F up the flow of traffic because you missed where you were supposed to go. Keep going, and turn around the long way like most normal people
- stop with this U-turn in the middle of the street or at a 4-way stop insanity.
- your hazards are not an excuse to block a lane and stop and wait whenever you want

Yes! This drives me nuts because if you're in the lane next to the maniac they inevitably edge into your lane to execute their stupid turn.

I hate U-Turns in general. I’m sure some of you are familiar with the intersection of the FFX Co. Parkway and Beulah St. over by Kingstowne and the Inova ER/medical offices. When you’re heading east toward Kingstowne on the parkway, there’s a double left turn lane onto northbound Beulah, and about a quarter mile up the road on Beulah, there’s two separate left turn lanes at separate lights to go into Metro Park via Walker Lane, and the ER is just right there at the end of Walker Lane. And yet! People choose to U-Turn at the Parkway/Beulah light and turn onto Walker Lane from the westbound parkway, which takes wayyyyy too long and makes the left turn traffic back up all the way onto the parkway. I’ve been stuck at that light for 3 light cycles during morning rush hour and it takes for. freaking. ever. I wish they would ban u-turns there during rush hour.

I honestly want to know where those morons learned to drive. It's common enough that some place has to be teaching it as a turning maneuver, and surely not everyone was a former truck driver. WHY?!

I think it's all the foreigners in this area that learn to drive in another culture.

I don't know why this happens so frequently now. it never used to. It is the worst, especially when it blocks off cutouts for turns etc.. Pull up and we can all fit in.

No sorry, foreigners are often much better drivers from learning to drive in places with much more hectic traffic.

+1. Can anyone who does this answer?
I am so tempted to zip my little car in that slot. I know DC drivers would hate that cut in move, and I bet they would pull up after that bacause they abhor the idea of letting anyone ahead of them ever..

Oooh I asked this very question in a thread here ages ago because it drives me nuts as well. Answers involved a combination of not wanting to hit the car in front of them if rear-ended and wanting to leave a gap in case they need to maneuver around the car in front of them. Read if you like here:

-Merging folks the little pedal on the right hand side makes the car go faster the harder you push it. do not try merge on the highway when you are are going 45 and traffic is going 60. just don't. if you are at the same speed of traffic its much easier for the traffic to let you in. Use the acceleration lane for whats its was designed for.

- Bicyclists, especially the one meandered across two lanes of traffic from the right shoulder to the left shoulder 20 yards in front of vehicles going 45-50 on 123 near CIA this morning at 6:15. You sir are an asshole.

Anonymous wrote:What are your driving pet peeves... a few of mine

-its 2019 why are traffic lights not timed better to keep traffic flowing (I'm looking at you Mclean, Vienna, tysons)
-Zipper merge, when traffic is backed up don' try to exit the merge lane early, just drive to the end and zipper merge, this also works with broken down vehicles
-turn lane, you missed your turn lane or were not able to bully you way into the turn lane, suck it up and go the next street and double back. don't park in the thru traffic lane with your turn signal on waiting.
-Tailgaiting, I'm going as fast as traffic will allow to maintain reasonable stopping distance. please back off
-speedlimit 5-10 over is acceptable. going 70 down canal road is not.
-changing lanes, a turn signal is nice, but a turn signal does NOT give you permission to change lanes, it signals your desire. if there is not enough space in front of my car don't force your way in if you missed your turn
-cell phone yes some people are capable of talking on the phone and driving and maintaining their speed. your jaw muscle and foot muscle are not connected. talk all you want, but don't slow down
-High Beams that little blue light on your dashboard indicates that they are on. when traffic is oncoming (even on a 4 lane road like 123 or rt 7) its nice to turn them off.

Better yet, why the lights are not sensors equipped and if there is no approaching cars on the opposite direction then the car is let go on green

It's not too much if some jackass slams into your rear end. I know people who make a point of leaving that much space ahead of them for that very reason.
