Driving pet peeves

What are your driving pet peeves... a few of mine

-its 2019 why are traffic lights not timed better to keep traffic flowing (I'm looking at you Mclean, Vienna, tysons)
-Zipper merge, when traffic is backed up don' try to exit the merge lane early, just drive to the end and zipper merge, this also works with broken down vehicles
-turn lane, you missed your turn lane or were not able to bully you way into the turn lane, suck it up and go the next street and double back. don't park in the thru traffic lane with your turn signal on waiting.
-Tailgaiting, I'm going as fast as traffic will allow to maintain reasonable stopping distance. please back off
-speedlimit 5-10 over is acceptable. going 70 down canal road is not.
-changing lanes, a turn signal is nice, but a turn signal does NOT give you permission to change lanes, it signals your desire. if there is not enough space in front of my car don't force your way in if you missed your turn
-cell phone yes some people are capable of talking on the phone and driving and maintaining their speed. your jaw muscle and foot muscle are not connected. talk all you want, but don't slow down
-High Beams that little blue light on your dashboard indicates that they are on. when traffic is oncoming (even on a 4 lane road like 123 or rt 7) its nice to turn them off.

- stop leaving so much space between you and the car in front of you, when stopped. Some of you are leaving an entire car length which is much too much
- when turning, stop doing some kind of out and turn, question mark shaped maneuver. You're not an 18 wheeler.
- learn to effing park! don't park more than a foot away from the curb, or on the line in a parking lot!
- slower traffic keep right, people
- don't F up the flow of traffic because you missed where you were supposed to go. Keep going, and turn around the long way like most normal people
- stop with this U-turn in the middle of the street or at a 4-way stop insanity.
- your hazards are not an excuse to block a lane and stop and wait whenever you want
Anonymous
- stop relying on your car's sensors. they're imperfect and often don't give accurate/courteous space. they also make you stupid. look in your mirrors and over your shoulders the old fashioned way.

OMFG. So many ride share drivers from Maryland blocking traffic in Arlington, and then racing out like a mad max killing machine thru quiet residential streets

If I am in the left lane passing traffic on the right, tailgating me is especially unproductive. I'd have to slow to get over behind the cars I'm passing, but I can't because you're on my butt. And often, I can't go faster without tailgating the car in front of me. Back off and I'll let you by when I can.

People who don't signal turns, especially if I'm waiting to turn and could have gone, are so frustrating.

People who speed in parking lots and neighborhoods are the absolute worst. You're going to kill someone.

Honking to teach people a lesson. If somebody drives badly, it’s either a mistake or they are jerks. A prolonged honk isn’t going to make them better drivers.

- when making a left turn, pull forward and THEN turn the wheel -- do not simply "curve" from one street onto another

- when you're at a stoplight "just checking" your phone, LOOK UP occasionally so you don't miss when the light turns green

- your bright-ass headlghts are blinding everyone coming in the opposite direction.

The badly timed lights are #1.
#2 is people who don't know how to use turn signals.

My pet peeve is when I put on my turn signal indicating I need to change lanes and people take it as some sort of challenge to never let me in. I'm not sure if people just don't pay enough attention while driving to even notice the cars around them or if they are being obnoxious on purpose. If the car behind me in the lane over would see my turn signal and take their foot of the gas pedal for one second I could weave right in no big deal.

Another one - people who won't let you back into traffic after you have obeyed the law and pulled to the side of the road to let an emergency vehicle pass. That annoys me so much!!

People who don't pull up to the line when stopped at a red light. Why would you stop short and leave so much space in front of you???

Ubers, Lyfts, and taxis stopping on a main road at a no stopping or standing time / rush hour. Find a side street to unload your pax.

Cars stopped in bike lanes any time. Cars who do not allow me to merge and/or speed up when I need to go around cars stopped in the bike lane. If that’s the game now, the only safe solution is to ride in the main lane the whole time, and you all can enjoy waiting for a safe time to pass me.

This is so true and I hate it. Now my husband just doesn't signal because signaling actually makes it harder for him to merge. If people just played nice for half a second we could all have much better experiences driving on these crazy roads.

This.

There are some lights that won’t turn green unless the sensor triggers there’s a car there.

Move up, people.
