Frankly, the whole idea of State Cup is for teams to break out of their little protective league bubbles and play some teams they don't normally face throughout the year.
The idea of NPL's State Cup fails on this as it is simply a league based tournament. It isn't as fun as what VYSA used to be and it also ruins current VYSA by not having NPL teams participate in the VYSA State Cup. |
| CCL vs VPL ( we all know whos better). Cough cough CCL |
VYSA can include NCSL and EDP too. the VYSA State Cup is just better because it is open to all leagues not because of CCL. |
So is the us clubsoccer state cup |
They call it that. But I think in the highly polarized of NoVA soccer and DCUM almost all would be in agreement that the VYSA is really the true State Cup. |
| Don’t brag about being able to beat most teams in the bracket then hold up quarterfinals as proof. |
I imagine Villarreal’s best teams play in the VPL State Cup. Quick google search will show that Villarreal had 7 teams in State Cup play on the boys side. Only 2 of those made the semis. Their other 5 teams did not make it past the second game.

Your reading is as bad as your bracketology. I'll put it in simpler terms: for the U14 boys (only group I know well), Villareal would be about the 7th or 8th best team out of the 19 teams. GotSoccer has them as the #4 team in the state, but I'm not buying that. This is neither a brag nor a dig at Villareal--simply an estimation based on what I've seen. |
| My reading is fine. Someone claimed Villarreal would be able to beat most teams. This isn’t the case, but thanks for your anecdotal evidence on the U14s. |
| Who cares about ABGC im sorry i mean VILLARREAL! In a weak league with boys and girls there not in the top. Have them join CCL Or ECNL and start beating these real teams |

VYSA is more established, has a broader set of participants, and hooks into the USYS Regional and National competitions which are also more established. Often teams from EDP, CCL, and NCSL will compete. Even some ECNL teams on occasion and definitely at the pre-ECNL and pre-DA ages the larger clubs that have these programs will compete, unless they have some tie into VPL/NPL then they usually pick the VPL state cup out of a sense of loyalty to that league.
VYSA is a better competition than the NPL (VPL) state cup. The VPL state cup is free for teams already in the VPL league, but there is a fee for non-VPL teams. It is not as strong a competition, but that does not mean that it is not fun and worth the $275 team fee to register - which is pretty cheap (less than $30 or even $20 a player depending on team size / age). Hope this helps you decide which one to play in … and hopefully this thread does not turn into a Villareal, SYC, LMVSC, FCV, Loudoun, BRYC, VDA, McLean, Wash Spirit thread …

Annandale used to be in CCL. And SYC. And PWSI. And Braddock Road. Now those teams U9-13 are in NCSL or VPL. And Alexandria, Herndon, and NVSC top teams were just in NCSL (and Alexandria top U9and U10 continue to be). This league talk was the same when all of these teams were in the other league and continues to be ridiculous. Whatever makes you feel better. If the child’s team is weak, refer to the club, and if both club and team are weak, claim the league as superior. All near beer. Bring something stronger than that. Or maybe just enjoy your kid’s growth regardless of where they play? |
| Villarreal....get a life. ok team from a dumpy part of town. |
OP, so it's not my decision but I was just wondering how one could crown someone state champions with having a singular path to achieve that status. I'll have to admit since this thread has gone sideways, we do very well in VPL league play but get our butts kicked in virtually all tournaments. Our coach even tries to move us down in brackets, but results are the same. |
Lovely. So when do you expect to buy your child’s admission to USC? Probably doesn’t attend the best high school in the country, which happens to be in the dumpy part of town to which you refer and which draws a number of locals. But hey, it’s dumpy. #yourkidbetterhopegritisntgenetic |
