Palin on Oprah - thoughts?

I blame her handlers (I am in pr) and any idiot would have known that Couric was looking to position the interview in a negative light. I would have insisted it was either live or taped and not edited or nothing.

Edited or not she still sounds like a moron. I'm sure there was more idiotic stuff they had to leave on the floor just for brevity.

Here is Palin with Sean Hannity (another hostile interview edited to make her look bad, I'm sure):

"We have allies who are as concerned about Ahmadinejad's actions as we are. We need to be working closer with France, and with Britain, and start, not just considering, but seriously taking steps towards the sanctions that we hear all about but we never see any actions towards, though.

"Cutting off the imports into Iraq, of their refined petroleum products. They're reliant -- 40 to 45 percent of their energy supply is reliant on those imports. We have some control over there.

"And some of the beneficial international monetary deals that Iraq benefits from -- we can start implementing some sanctions there and start really shaking things up, and telling Ahmadinejad, nobody is going to stand for this."

Bolding added. It's okay. She can probably see Iran from her house.

Is this the way she normally talks? As a native English speaker, I have a hard time understanding what the f*c* she's saying. It takes a lot of concentration.

my take on Palin is that she is not ready for prime time, was a huge reach as VP pick, and should have served out a few terms as Gov or Senator before going for a national role. Being a governor is a big deal, I am not belitting that, but again you should serve a few terms and do it successfully.

I think the exact same thing about Obama. No chance I am voting for a one-term senator who has not been in the public eye for years and years beforehand. Need to pay your dues.

BTW she seems to have been drawing sloppy coverage too. Both Fox and MSNBC have done moronic things in their coverage of her. Fox showing rallies from the presidential election as representing her book tour and MSNBC showing those stupid fake photos of her in a bikini and carrying a gun (what moron doesn't know those are fake by now??!!).

I'm no supporter of hers, and I don't dispute that one would not write these words. However, I watched the tape and, despite a slightly malicious chuckle at the Iraq/Iran slip, I knew what she meant. Whether her ideas are correct, I certainly have my doubts. But I think it's a bum rap to overemphasize the fact that extemporaneous spoken words don't quite parse when frozen on paper.

I think she is a phony and an idiot, and I resent that I have to keep seeing her and hearing about her even if I choose not to watch Oprah, etc. She is inescapable right now.

And please, please, please, people. If you want balanced NEWS, listen to NPR. TV news is doody.

NPR's new operation is totally sold out right now. Their healthcare coverage is nauseating. Nothing but Republican talking points. Cokie Roberts, Juan Williams, Mara Liarson, etc. are always on TV news. There is no difference. "Tell Me More" is worth listening to, though.

Do you listen to Diane Rehm? I think she does an admirable job of trying to get individuals from both sides of the issue.

NPR isn't perfect, but I still think it is better than any of the 24 hour news channels.

LOL! Love that expression.

you may infer and understand what she's talking about, but does she?

Really???? You think Diane Rehm gives both sides??????? She is soooo one sided -- and I am a liberal and a huge NPR fan. I don't think I realized how one sided she is until I heard her coverage of issues that fall squarely within my line of work. I must say, though, her health care coverage has seemed to me to be more two sided -- buth then again, it's not may area of expertise. Her show is the one NPR show that I shut off.

Here's an example. Just the other day she had a show about the new guidelines for breast cancer screening. She had one of the individuals on the Task Force that put out the guidelines and one physician with experience with breast cancer patients who was completely opposed to the new guidelines.

I have listened on numerous other occasions when she has had both conservative and liberal viewpoints.

She does have guests on both sides on the show. However, she cuts off the guests she disagrees with and asks "loaded" questions. She is very opinionated. It is very clear with whom she agrees. The show is far from neutral. Honestly, I'd love to be a fan (and I agree with her on a lot of things) but I can't. I can barely listen to it anymore.
