Okay for 14 YO to go to Cardi B concert?

Heck, I'd be thrilled if mine wanted to go see Cardi B instead of some of the weird indie/obscure bands she's into right now (and their shows I've attended with her). She's going through her "anything on the radio is terrible" phase where she thinks the bands she listens to are superior to all else.

Agree about using it as an opportunity to talk about uncomfortable subjects. As a parent I would also point out that Cardi B is a persona created by the artist to make money, not the person herself, and that what she represents is just a fantasy. But whatevs. I saw Marilyn Manson as a teenager, and I just saw it as entertainment, not inspiration for my lifestyle.

Cardi B is nasty and trashy. Totally not appropriate for a 14'year old.

That's great but we're talking about Cardi B not the Wiggles.

You think people are taking 14 year olds to the Wiggles?

OP when I was 14 I saw Springsteen and went to a very pot filled Allman Brothers show. Your kid will be fine seeing Cardi B.

No, I wouldn't. Nothing about her represents anything I would want my daughter to emulate, or be.

There are lots of rappers / hip hop artists I would say no to.

Would you let her go to a country music concert.

Confederate flags and drunks.

Cool. Have you thought about the message in a lot of rock songs?

Rock n roll = sex and usually drugs

So as long as you say no to rock, you're at least being consistent.

Ha -- exactly. I have a feeling a lot of people here who are saying no to Cardi B have never really thought about how basically all music outside of classical is pretty much usually about sex and often drugs.

I mean, I don't care one bit, but my parents were also taking me to rock concerts (complete with--gasp!--lots of contact highs from the pot) when I was 11.

When I was a kid my mom wouldn't let me watch MTV because she thought it was a bad influence. I wasn't allowed to watch Dirty Dancing. She never let me go to any shows or concerts. That didn't stop me from doing these things, I just learned to be sneaky and hide what I was doing. To this day I don't tell my mom much about my life. OP, I'm not saying you should definitely let your daughter go to the concert, but a lot of prohibitions on things like music could put up some communication barriers or hiding behaviors at an age when you want to know what she's really up to.

have you listened to CardiB? not the clean versions, but the original versions of her songs that she'll be singing at her concerts.

CardiB 's music is not pop!

Then what is it? Rap? R&B?

I'm totally liberal and my parents did not censor my music growing up. I was a huge fan of Prince before his Purple Rain days. That said...I would not take a 14 year old to a Cardi B concert. Hell no. And I like Cardi B. Maybe a 16 year old. But not a 14 year old
