What about in-state Va schools? Should have a good shot at UVA and W&M. Others too.

Definately Wooster as a safetyin science. Their whole thing is turning out kids who can do research and have research opportunities, and it will be a safety for your kid.

Oberlin is good in science and should be a match. Grinnell is in Iowa and with be a low reach, but is one of the top producers of science PhDs. Definately Macalaster if you will go that far. Davidson is great but a reach may be too preppy/ conservative.

Skidmore.
Have you looked at U Rochester? That might be another match.

Looking at SLACs leading to a science PhD without greeks for my my kid right now...

Have you considered the NESCACs that are easier to get into? For example, Trinity or Colby? LaFayette in Easton, PA?

Colby at 16% and even trinity at 33% are hardly safeties. Look at Gettysburg.

Wooster would be my first choice, they are strong in the sciences.

LACs are great for STEM; lots of opportunities to do research without grad students taking all the plum jobs.
