Can’t afford to take care of my child anymore

Go to your church OP.

Our church was offering interest free loans, food and other assistance to parishoners who were furloughed.

Are you a contractor? What is it that you can't afford for you child?

Food can be found at food pantries. Clothes at Goodwill.

All my credit cards have had offers on their websites for those impacted and need some help with not getting super behind on payments. Even just picking up the phone and speaking yo someone can help delay penalties and fees.

And at least it's over. It sucks if you had to deplete your savings during that time, but at least the money is coming back in.

Plenty of people directly impacted by the shutdown who aren't getting backpay (contractors, small local businesses etc).

OP here

I’m a new fed contractor, no back pay
I don’t own credit cards

I mean, I'm all for living within your means and not having debt via credit cards....but if you can't afford food or essentials for your kid, get a credit card for Christs sake. Use it sparingly.

Op, what exactly is it that you are in need of? Food? shelter? Daycare?

How old is your child?

This, especially if you have no savings. You should be back at work.

Lost a lot of sympathy for OP when it came out she doesn't have/want credit cards. I know people who can't afford their kids due to no fault of their own AND have maxed on credit cards. oP has options even if they aren't great.

Hi friends! OP, truly sorry if this is not the case, but there was a poster very similar to this a couple of years ago. Eventually the thread turned toward people trying to send gift cards to the OP. It was determined the person was a fraud. I remember the moderator (Jeff?) saying this. So please proceed with caution.

OP, where approximately do you live and what do you need? People can suggest where to go for resources.

There are a lot of places you can go for support.

The Salvation Army provides emergency assistance and support to families. Google and reach out to the location closest to you.

If your child is in school, contact the school counselor, your child’s teacher or a school administrator.

Then what is the issue? Kid is 9... in school all day with a meal to eat. What can’t you afford?
