| I don’t want my kid outside at the bus stop in subzero temps. MCPS better make sure all busses are warm & schools, otherwise close. No child should be cold at the bus stop, on the bus & at school. |
| Every morning I pass a teenager waiting for the bus in his basketball shorts. I was curious to see if he’d be out there in real pants when it goes well below 0 wind chill tomorrow! |
I see the same at my bus stop, what on earth is wrong with these parents? |
This is awesome, but you need the person who gets so angry at the teacher who admits they like a snow day. As if, somehow they fact that we enjoy snow days is what causes snow days. |
| I’m worried about wind gusts and low temperatures combined. |
Perhaps the parent thinks there are more important battles to fight. If the kid isn’t getting sick and is doing well in school- why pass judgment? |
Why do you ask? Are his parents out at the bus stop in basketball shorts too? |
Your kid won't be, unless you're referring to temperatures in Celsius. The overnight low in Germantown is forecast to be 4 degrees Fahrenheit, from 5 to 7 am. |
| PP, no need to be snarky. 4 degrees isn’t too far off from 0 degrees. Some of us who care about the children don’t want them to get frost bitten, which can occur in a matter of minutes. |
Snowflake alert. News flash - it gets this cold in parts of the country all winter and kids manage to get to school without frost bite. I'm certain you likely drive your kids to school anyway. |
| Do you think the 2-hour delay will stand, or is there a chance they’ll end up closing? |
Is there room on the bingo board for this gem? |
How many minutes? https://www.weather.gov/safety/cold-wind-chill-chart These are dangerously-cold temperatures if you're working outside, or if you're homeless. They're not dangerously-cold temperatures if you're standing at a school bus stop for a few minutes. |
| Any thoughts on Friday 2/1? |

Specific conditions that lead to frostbite include:
Wearing clothing that isn't suitable for the conditions you're in — for example, it doesn't protect against cold, windy or wet weather or it's too tight. Staying out in the cold and wind too long. Risk increases as air temperature falls below 5 F (minus 15 C), even with low wind speeds. In wind chill of minus 16.6 F (minus 27 C), frostbite can occur on exposed skin in less than 30 minutes. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/frostbite/symptoms-causes/syc-20372656 As someone posted earlier it’s supposed to be 4 degrees in the morning. That doesn’t include wind chill factors. |
