| My DD knows at least two or three self-proclaimed teen communists. She has been talking a lot about them in light of the Venezuela situation. I think it's fine to wrestle with political philosophy. They'll most likely grow out of it. As they say, "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others." |
It is a shame you are raising a kid stupid enough to think communism is a good idea. |
Please, children experiment. Questioning the status quo is never a bad thing. |
| OP here: From what I understand, DC is Trotskyist and does not support the regimes of Stalin and Mao, but maybe more radical than modern Finland. DC is outspoken about their views at home and at school but to my knowledge is not involved in any sort of communist party. We want DC to invest in the stock market which they resist. DC seems pretty firm in their views. |
Exactly. Tell them to get a job and then take 90% away. |
OP here. I don't think length is an issue DC has read multiple 1,000 page+ books on the subject
|
Dial it back. Why are you having a child invest in the stock market? Too much Alex P. Keaton has created an Alexi Keatonovich. |
+1 OP - part of the appeal is that it is making you lose your lunch. but actually, OP. If you did some reading you would know that Marx was extremely eloquent in his writings about how the workers of the world suffered through the ages. Lenin not so much, but Marx is a good read for anyone to better understand how the world works. Yeah, the withering of the state business isn't turning out as he might have predicted, but his description and analysis of historical events are really great. But also, is the kid a communist or just left of you? |
Invest in the stock market? That's really funny. Your kid is a Trot because the Trots are really good at outreach to the youth. You really don't have to worry about this, but drop the stock market business for now. |
It's a lovely idea - it just does't actually work. But young people should be encouraged to explore ideas and philosophies. That's how they learn. You should be able to have civil political discourse about these ideas. The same way you talk and explore all sorts of issues. |
Um, how old is this child? How did they earn the money you think should go into the stock market? |
| I think you’re way overthinking/overreacting to this. Let the kid read whatever political literature they want. This isn’t the 1950’s anymore. The real terrorists are reading Mein Kampf. A little Marx and Trotsky never hurt anyone. |
|
Communism is great on paper. Just like Ayn Rand’s objectivism.
It’s normal for teens to go through either, or even both phases. Most grow out of it |
Agree! And FFS, this post is in the Tweens and Teens section so......OP, are you thinking your kid will always be like this? If so, more power to them, but I seriously wouldn't count on it. |
You seriously want your kid to invest in the stock market - while they're a kid???? I mean, I can see doing that as an educational experience but treating your dc's resistance like it's a serious matter? - this sounds like a troll post and not a very good one. |
