Grocery Shopping Rant

We all share this planet and we don't have to march to your tune. Not checking out groceries exactly the way you do is fine. It is rude to expect everyone to get in line with your way of doing things. Take a breath.

Seriously? I can understand the advice that we should all be more patient with others but what about the poor cashier who had to repack all the groceries and scan every single coupon for this inconsiderate person who couldn't manage to plan ahead? I can't imagine having so little respect for others.

That's their job.

Be nice. Not everyone is as smart or organized as you are on your best days. Why do you get pleasure out of imagining someone who doesn't open their coupon book or remember to ask for reusable bags is such a jerk?

It's not imagining they are a jerk, because by doing the things that OP described, the woman was being a jerk. I'm shocked that OP has had so few defenders on here, as all she was looking for is some common courtesy and some common sense from the woman in front of her.

Making the people in line behind you wait excessively because you don't have your act together in multiple ways is rude. Yes, we all have to share the planet and be patient and blah blah blah, but when it comes to the blatant rudeness and disrespect of others, it's completely fine to complain. OP never said she was rude to the woman in front her her, despite the rudeness that ended up coming her way. So she vents on an anonymous forum. I say, go OP. I'm on your side.

Isn't it ironic how many of these "Save the Planet" types are the most inconsiderate of actual people?

What are you talking about?

You wasted several minutes of my time

OMG, how horrid! How many minutes was it? Three? No, not four!

How are you doing now? Do you think you'll ever be able to get back on schedule??

Think she is saying the woman in front of OP (the one with the reusable grocery bags) cares about the environment but is inconsiderate of other people.

What I cannot fathom is people being rude to frantic multitasking mothers at the checkout, simultaneously trying to hand over the right coupons, pay and not forget their credit card or change, bag stuff themselves because the bagger disappears when he/she is most needed, soothe the screaming baby and look around for the other kids that are vanishing in opposite directions amid customers' legs and carts thinking they're racing for the grand-prix...

Usually I pick up the pacifier and keep an eye on where the kids went (or bring them back).

It's rude to make people behind you slow down to keep time with your laid-back tune, Ellie May Hayseed.

This was a grocery store. The very nature of the business is rushed. We aren't shopping for luxury furniture. It's get in/get out. It is rude to make other people wait b/c you don't have yourself together. Not the end of the world, for sure. But, come on. Get it together and move on.

You're right, because these mothers are trying hard to get checked out. The woman the OP was talking about was not like this.

Not everyone lives the way you live. Not everyone thinks "the very nature" of a grocery store is rushed.

Figures that someone who wants others to hurry up and get out of the way would also not hesitate to name call. We need less people like you around here, IMO.

OP, I am with you. Grocery shopping is one of the worst places to encounter other people's thoughtless behavior. The lady in front of you gets a special prize for selfishness.

13:23 - common courtesy and common sense do not exist here, silly! Just read the posts.

I rush at the store. I am so used to shopping with kids that I move very fast.

The woman was being rude. Who the hell asks that groceries be repacked AND someone to look through their coupon book for them? Seriously. She was rude to the cashier and the people behind her.
