If you had success working with a Personal Trainer...

Ours comes to the house so for starters, extremely convenient. Also takes away the ability to cancel last minute because it's happening, like it or not.

Would also second the thoughts above about great technique which has lead to better flexibility for me

I have also been able to talk about specific things that I do and then tailor exercises to those, for instance tennis - specific stretches and exercises to strengthen the areas that are under the most stress and exposed to injury. If I see an article about an exercise in a magazine, we can discuss it, etc.

I have done it over the course of 10 years. Sometimes in small group and sometimes 1-1. I find it super helpful for both the physical and mental benefits.

Fitness Together in Georgetown:

1. Accountability, if I don’t show for an appointment, they’ll call me. If I don’t do cardio on my time, they’ll ask why not.
2. Prepaid: If I don’t do it, I’m wasting my money.
3. Personalized nutrition, exercises based on my posture and lifestyle
4. Multiple trainers: It doesn’t matter when one goes on vacation for a week, because I’ve worked with everyone. They can all pull the file, see what my workout is supposed to be for that day, and I get the benefit of different people encouraging/demanding more effort.
5. Stretching! You can’t stretch yourself as well as someone else can stretch you, and for me, it’s the absolute best thing about it!
6. Distraction: For me, talking while I’m working out is the best way for me to get through some of the harder exercises, even if it comes out as gasping pants. For others, there’s very little talking. They’ll turn the music up or down, whatever works best for you.
7. More equipment/creativity: There are three areas, and tons of equipment that can be used in a ton of different ways. Add in that they collaborate on making ingenious programs that last 6 weeks, targeting the areas you want combined with their assessments of your strengths/weaknesses.
8. Experience with different circumstances: athletes, desk jobs, injury recovery, weight loss, etc. They work with people through all of it.

It’s expensive as all get out if you do the smaller packages. I do 4 days per week, and it works out to a price I’m willing to pay. There is a year contract, which makes it a no-go for many people, but I really can’t recommend it enough.

I went to Fitness Together when they had a location on 16th st and loved them! I’ve had PTs at other gyms before and mostly were hit or miss. Mostly miss bc they either used the same workout for all their clients or they didn’t personalize or give me a challenging workout. FT was great and I still saw the trainer two years ago when I needed help getting back into running without injuring myself. If I could afford it I’d still see my trainer bc he’s totally worth it. OP I’m glad you went and the trainer is working for you. Keep it up!
