It's a fence. Not even a long one. Keeps kids from crossing the street away from the cross walk. Why should this take up time at a PTA meeting?
Sometimes, I feel like this board is monopolized by Russian trolls who are trying to stir things up back lack context on what is really an important issue and what is actually irrelevant. |
| The fence is to keep out any kids from "lesser" schools from making it on to Churchill's campus. DD says kids from QO, Wheaton and Einstein have been seen on campus after school, so the fence will hopefully deter them. |
Where is the fence? Also, why is there only one marked crosswalk across Gainsborough between Tuckerman and Seven Locks? Maybe, instead of trying to fence students off, the school could try designating additional places for students to cross? |
|
Maybe instead of a fence the school could have professional crossing guards at the intersections to direct traffic flow and make sure kids can cross safely in the crosswalks. The one location of an assistant principal who doesn't know what he is doing has caused some close calls with the buses turning out of the student lot with children in the crosswalk.
The fence was a waste of money - hopefully MCPS funded and not the PTA. |
| Churchill parents are a strange bunch. If our high school put up a new fence I can’t imagine caring about it. And being involved in the PTA was just a matter of expressing interest. They were always looking for people to volunteer. Our school is Whitman so you’d think the parent population wouldn’t be that different but based on the posts on this board it seems like they really are. |
Whitman parents are interested in the crosswalk across River Road and the "back entrance" to the parking lot, aren't they? |
Really not the same thing - it's the county/state involved in that and the proposals have been open for public comment. The school input is one element of that. A family died at that intersection. |
Whitman parents are only interested if the county/state are involved, proposals are open for public comment, and people have died? I find that difficult to believe. |
| The black iron fence in front of Churchill is a joke. Kids easily just hop over it because it is only a few feet high. It was a waste of funds that could have been put for better uses. |

To keep Regina from getting hit by a bus?

| I heard they put the fence in to Make Churchill Great Again and keep out those lower SES types. |
This. Churchill parents need to get a life and support their administration. Geez! |
Not Churchill parentS. I'm pretty sure it's one vocal person with strong and unusual opinions. |
Or a former parent. Janis, come out come out wherever you are! |
