HS Magnet COGAT testing report

I don't think there will be any changes this year because of timing, but it is possible considering MCPS long-term plans: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/mainstory/stor...614069/Community-Conversation/

More likely next year’s round of applications.

Could you please briefly summarize what the long-term plans are?

Does anyone know when admissions decisions will be released? Is it January or February?

Will they release test scores, or just send admissions decisions?

In the past, students only get their scores if they don’t get in. Admitted and waitlisted kids don’t receive their scores. Scores are in the rejection letter. Not sure if this will change with the new test.

For my two DCs, I emailed the program director to ask for their test scores after they got in. This was at Blair for the math magnet. Just to know where they were in the pool of accepted students. We didn't come from a math middle school like Takoma and I wanted to be able to prop up their spirits when they thought they didn't belong. He gave me their scores and what percentile of the students they were in (approximate).

I don't know what they do with this test however.

Oh - my children are 3 grades apart so it was different years. It makes me think they do it regularly.

what percentage/percentile kids should get for admission into HS magnet schools?

Acceptance has never been solely determined by percentage/percentile on magnet test.

I read in DCUM that 95% is cutoff in Virginia. Not sure which county it is.

Do they use the same test for magnet admissions in NOVA?
