DC took test this morning at RMHS. Took about 3 hours total. Kids go in and are in a long line on main street while they count off ~30 kids to go with a teacher to a testing room. Line moved quickly. Testing was in the classrooms on Chromebooks. Students logged in using their own accounts and then went to a testing site. First part was an essay, typed on the chromebook, ~50 min. Then they took the COGAT online. It was nine 10 minute sections, in three groups of three - language arts, math, and logic/patterns. There were brief instructions and a sample question before each section. Students had a 5 min break between the three groups. I heard of a few computer connection glitches in a couple of the rooms that resolved themselves with a refresh. Overall DC thought it was smooth and pretty straightforward.
Just documenting so that next when someone has a question, they might find this if they search. Please share your observations from Blair and Poolesville.

| worried about my DD, she said she didn't finish most of the sections except for the essay. |
|
Sounds like a very similar process at Blair, according to my dc. Everything went smoothly. She's happy to have the test behind her.
Good luck to everyone's kids! |
Your DC really provided this level of detail OP? |
Not OP but my DC IS that detailed. |
OP here. Yes, DC provided that amount of detail and more. I had to stop them from describing each section in detail and discussing which questions were tricky. No, please do not try to describe to me the pattern matching problems. That's why we are applying to magnet programs.

| DC is coming in from Fairfax and the ‘Private School’ workflow has been a nightmare. They took an extra hour today because the teachers couldn’t figure out how to get the non MCPS student systems to login. They also sent out incorrect information via email and failed to send recommendation forms out to teachers listed in the google form. This stuff isn’t hard, wish they were more on the ball |
| A bunch of kids are taking it today. Not sure why you want to give them so much information in advance. |
| And other kids who are sick this weekend will be taking it at an even later date. |
| I bet the parents sharing all this info here didn’t think about that. |
| Previously, the kids were told do not share the test information with others. Either MCPS changed policy or the OP's kid didnt listen. Post the detail information here is irresponsible. |
It’s still the policy, but some parents asked their kids as soon as they exited the double doors. |
| Not exactly an answer key... |
+1 All that is being shared here is the process for the testing. The magnet coordinators said it was the COGAT, and you can look up online what the different sections and style questions are. If it helps a child feel less anxious knowing that yes indeed they have an essay and it's first, then good. |
| With the change in tests for HS magnets this year, is there also a plan by the county to change the sizes of the HS magnets? Will there be more (or fewer) spots available? |
