For me, the season has just been one, long nervous wait for next week’s accident, which I remembered reading about when it happened in real time.

Oh, no. I don't know anything about that. Spoiler alert maybe? Does anyone get seriously injured? I hope not!!!

Caroline is 34 years old. I was shocked by that. I assumed she was a 22 year old with mental health issues who had never worked before. She’s 34.

I've heard that you audition to be on the show (actor) and that if they accept you, you have to take a course about doing the job/yachting before going (actor - and how ben and that stew met before the show actually aired). but then I heard that some of these folks have been crew/stews for years and years. Some of it just doesn't seem right. Like - the crazy nut-jobs. Without the cameras going, how did they even get their jobs done.

I think some of them, especially the more senior deck hands and stewards, are definitely for real. They are taking on real guests and you can't have it run by a bunch of amateurs.

However, there are some other crew on the boat who don't show up on camera. There's a deputy captain and/or some kind of senior deckand. They showed him very briefly 2 episodes ago when the jacuzzi overflowed or it started raining, and the 3 deck crew were all off the boat on the tender.

Kate really was a Chief Stew through the first couple of seasons. She now owns a boutique and just does the show for extra money. Her book is pretty funny and describes what it really is like on a yacht.

Other cast members have also been real yachties like Eddie, Kelly, Amy, Ben etc. Generally it is the third stew and junior deckhands that are the people auditioning as actors. And of course Captain Lee really does work as a boat Captain throughout most of the year.

Captain Lee, his wife, and Kate are very close in real life. That is why he gives her so much freedom over the last few seasons. Remember her intro to this show was making a blanket into a dick on a guests bed and then lying to Captain Lee about it. They’ve come a long way.

It would be so boring if it was just about a group of people doing their jobs well. So we get people like Casey, Jen, Bobby, Colin, in recent seasons. But I feel like Kate (or Hannah) shouldn't act so surprised that she has to train people, it seems to be the formula each time.

I found that comment interesting. The ratio of men to women in Alaska is extremely high-I think Rhylee is used to being the center of male attention.

Darn, I missed that show. I saw it come on but I couldn't watch. What you say about Alaska is true - the man-woman ratio is way off so I can see how Rhylee would be used to the male attention. She was totally ticked off when Ashton went off with that girl, and I think that's what we saw when she slammed the seat into Adrian's face. I'm really surprised she is making it through the season. TBH I would have kicked her off the boat after the first charter.

I think the producers do have some influence about someone getting kicked off or being pushed out. Rhylee adds the kind of drama the like. Caroline was just a downer. I also can't believe she's in her 30's.. she needs to grow up, and fast.

At a minimum, he should be instituting new routines with Kate's reports including the new stew to make sure nothing like that is going on. It doesn't matter if she was a basket case or whatever. Kate was her boss. Boss first. And she sucked at it - utterly unprofessional.

Chandler just sucked too. I hate business management shit as much as the next person but Chandler and Kate are two people with no business running a team. They draw their power from the wrong places. That's what went wrong with Chandler that night out where he went nuts and then tried to punish his team with an early start, and that's what went wrong with Kate when Caroline wasn't performing and instead of managing her to improvement, Kate just made the situation untenable.

I agree. I hated watching Chandler as much as I hated the rhoided up bro who was the bosun with Bobby and another female deck crew member. There is a lot of sexism on the boats though. I would never work for Kate or someone like her. She is endlessly snide and from the first season made it clear she is jealous of the guests as she expected to have their lives.

I can't believe Caroline's age and thought she didn't handle things well but through all the seasons the lowest ranked crew are generally treated horribly. The crew know they are "actors" brought on for reasons other than having potential to be good at the job. It has to be grating.

What surprises me most is that I thought this season they had the strongest crew I'd seen. Initially it appeared everyone had lots of experience.

Aside from being catty with Kate, Josiah seems to work very hard, and his work appears to be impeccable. No drama about his work!

Wow! Seriously! My first thought was this chick left her meds back in the states!

Rhylee - She's horrible. Her behavior, her attitude, everything about her. Her treatment of Ross sent me over the edge. I just think she's a b***. And, her treatment of Adrian. Really? He just wanted to get out of the van.

Caroline - Serious mental health issues. She's had them all season long. Unfortunately, I agree with Kate. When you are on a small team and one person is out all the time, it's really hard on the rest of the team. Seriously, 10 minutes for drinks for guests? The broken glass? Come on.

Ashton - He's hot and really fun to watch. I do think Rhylee was pissed that he was hooking up with some chick.

Kate - I do like her. I think she can be mean, but generally it's when people are incompetent or are holding her back. I get it. I would agree with the manager stuff other people have posted about, but she works well with Josiah. So, I think it is more about who's a good worker for her.

Chandler - I can't believe the madness that was happening for far too long. He really needed to go.

Agree with all of the above!

He was in complicit with Kate with blasting the music outside Caroline's door. Yes, Caroline shouldn't have given her 2 days' notice and then changed her mind (without sharing it with her boss and co-worker) and decided to not work and just veg out), but as a boss, Kate shouldn't have blasted the music like that and said you have one hour to get out. She should have realized the door was locked and told Caroline that was against the rules, if she wasn't going back to work she needed to pack up and leave and if Caroline didn't she should have told the Captain when he returned. I thought that Ross was amazing the way he listened to Caroline and later said he didn't agree with the bullying. It WAS bullying. I like Kate but don't like how mean she was to Caroline. She's a boss for goodness sake. If I got caught talking behind someone's back who I managed, I'd be contrite and embarrassed. Kate was neither.

Caroline needs to go on disability, get a good therapist and learn coping mechanisms for her overwhelming anxiety.

Kate and Josiah acted like bitchy BFFs all season and were cutting Carolyn out of things, making her feel like the odd man out. Lying around in one bunk and chatting, eating Cheetos, and then calling her in for "meetings"? Puh-leez. Very mean.

Rylee is pissed because they perpetually don't let her work in ways she knows she can contribute. She runs fishing charters in some of the hardest-to-handle waters, and here they have her cleaning nonstop. That's part of what contributes to her bad attitude. Sure, she could definitely handle it better, but part of being a good leader is using your people appropriately.
