She did, and she liked it, but the ending just made her mad at Shelby for poor little Jack's sake. I can't think of anything else that would guarantee a good cry because I tend to prefer comedies and romcoms. So DCUM, what do you guys like to watch when you need to let it all out?

Black Beauty, Wonder, Marley and Me, A dog's purpose

Terms of Endearment

I feel the same as your niece about Steel Magnolias. Terms of Endearment she did nothing to bring on her fate, and the acting is so, so good.

PP again. Broadcast News (probably) won't make her cry but Holly Hunter's tough-talking character has a time to cry every day. She bawls for 10-15 minutes or so and then gets on with her day. Maybe your niece could try something like that.

This is Us on a regular basis.
Bed of Roses back in the day had me crying so hard I had to leave the theater.
A Star is Born brings tears to the eyes
I bawled at Toy Story 3
Beaches will do it
Up - the first 20 minutes will do it.

Also - a movie that went under the radar last year with all the other WWII movies, but I thought was one of the most wonderful small movies I've seen in awhile:

Their Finest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMh1EvAQOQ8

And a "Rom-Com" with a big, big heart that made me cry 3 or four times each time I watched it: About Time:

I feel like I'm a pretty tough nut to crack when it comes to crying. A lot of the movies mentioned do nothing for me.

I do start to get misty when I watch that show on TLC called "Long Lost Family" where adoptees are reunited with birth parents / family members.

The Stoning of Soraya really had me full on sobbing. I had read the book before seeing it, so I knew what I was in for, but seeing on in screen was still so so sad. It makes it even more sad to know that it's a true story, and this mother actually went through this. Heartbreaking.
