Vegetarian Diet for weight loss

I've been vegetarian for 28 years and i love the fake breakfast sausages. Boca burgers are the best of the fake meat burgers. Yumm.

I eat tons of fruit and had to cut back when my sugar numbers started running high.

My pasta dishes are full of vegetables.

If you want to lose weight quickly, cut out dairy, overly processed foods, and refined sugars. That leaves you with basically only whole foods. It involves more cooking (either meal prepping or preparing nightly), but you'll see results in a week. I eat a lot of avocado, eggs, and seeds/nuts to get in enough fats and calories. I had always eaten mostly carbs as a vegetarian, but I was amazed what happened when I stopped and how much better I felt.

Stick with real food and stay away from those frozen vegetarian Frankenfoods.

I eat tons of those. Love 'em, and I'm a body builder with very low body fat and pretty high muscle mass. YMMV.

I like those, too. If you aren't a big cooker, they are convenient, tasty, and pretty healthy.

Vegetarian for 39 years here. This is off the OP's question - but it drives me bonkers when folks assume all vegetarians are trying to lose weight, or only want to eat steamed broccoli. We like a hearty sandwich, or a good piece of pie, as much as the next person!

Avocado and nuts are both very high in calories.

To lose weight, eat fewer calories than you burn. It’s physics.

Weight Watchers works for vegetarians. The current program has beans, eggs, non-fat yogurt and tofu as zero points (along with vegetables and fruit). If you build your meals around zero point food (along with foods that have points), you should be successful.

Read Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman...big veggie salad every day, you are not hungry. It feels great if you can sustain it over time. Even if you cannot sustain it, its gets you back to eating loads of veggies again

Vegetarian turned vegan here. I love cheese but now have so much weight to lose because of it. I have become vegan (almost a month in) and I have lost a few pounds without watching quantities. It helps that I love almost all vegetables, and certain fruits. I am also being careful about oil when I cook. Don’t eat a lot of cheese and that will help a lot.

Long time vegetarian here. Something like lentil dal is great because it’s hearty and will fill you up, despite being low in calories.

If you don't eat the standard American diet, which includes a lot of processed foods, and don't eat too much sugar, you will lose weight. That's why all of these diets have success stories.
