At what net worth did you feel rich?

Crazy but I've never felt rich but about 15 years ago I started feeling very lucky and grateful. I know that on paper I'm rich but that's just a number. When you don't really worry about money, you are rich.

FIRE - Financially Independent Retired Early. Pension paying 100% of final salary, house paid off and net worth around 2 million. Not sure I’d consider myself rich though.

When we could buy our cars in cash.

nice humble brag throwing the ivy reference in

Why is that a humble brag, they were only answering the question. That would make me feel rich, too.

Rich? not close. Rich seems like private airplanes and servants.

I think part of never getting to rich is that it will cost me more than $1 million to put my 4 kids through 4 years of college. Absolutely ridiculous. College costs in America have to change.

Send them to Canada, that amazing and often forgotten state

My old boss Dad was in a concentration camp and he grew up in a rent stabilized apartment in Queens and went to Queens college while living at home. In his 40s made it big at the start
up I was at, had 5% equity and later became CEO. In Spring 2005 IPO took home 100 million and later sold company in Spring 2008 to go go private and took home another 100 million as by then was CEO. His salary was five million before bonus for around 15 years and got 30 million severance when company bought out. He always would talk about the rich people and would actual call himself middle class. Never once in his life bought a luxury, the luxury was he had food on the table at night.

For some money does not make you rich, it is a lifestyle. Mind you he made more most years than Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and in IPO year more than Oprah, but they were rich he was not as rich is a lifestyle not a dollar amount

We are 62 years old, both retired, and have a net worth of $16MM.
I don’t consider us “rich” but we are very, very comfortable.
I understand that many would consider that rich, but when you are there it doesn’t really feel rich. But it’s sure as hell comfortable.

When I realized I wouldn't ever have to worry about having a home, eating or getting needed health care.

My first job was more per year than my parents ever made in a year combined. I felt rich then though I wasn't making 6 figures yet. When I bought my mom a kitchen appliance, I felt grossly extravagant.

Our net worth would clearly indicate that we are rich but we didn't grow up that way and I'm still a huge bargain shopper. I can easily afford to spend $800 on a blazer at Nordstrums but I really love it when I buy a lightly used blazer at a consignment shop for $100. I still agonize about spending the extra to fly first class and if I'm traveling alone I will usually fly coach. I love traveling with my DH because he won't fly coach! So while I know we are rich it took years of hard work, aggressive saving and bargain shopping and it's still in my DNA. At the same time I don't worry about money which is a great feeling.

When I was able to go to the grocery store and buy what I wanted without thinking about the price or adding it up in my head.

Apparently I have very low standards. But I marvel over my luck wrt to money every day.

PP here. I’m somewhat like you, except I’m the DH.
I wait to buy most things until they’re on sale and I never pay for 1st class on a plane. However, I do pay for “comfort seating” or premium economy, to me that’s worth it.
Curious though, what’s your approximate net worth?
