NCS

I’m poster who says it’s not for everyone. It’s not warm and fuzzy. Academics are strong but I wouldn’t say it’s a fun experience

It is not a top choice for the K-8s in the area.

What a ridiculously unfounded comment. NCS is highly coveted. The school is an academic powerhouse and demands a lot of its students. Most girls who go there love it.

All of my friends graduating eighth grade this year are applying to NCS and for most of them it’s their first choice for their daughters.

My Uber driver the other day was a pretty recent NCS grad as well as an URM. She haaated her experience there. And I know she wasn't making it up because she was in the same class as one of my daughter's BFFs and knew her well. She was polite enough to say good things.

NCS is for rich, mainstream girls. Otherwise, it's tough. I'd never send a kid there.

I’m sorry to hear she did not have a good experience. My daughter loves NCS and is having a really wonderful experience and she has a very close grade that seem to really look out for each other.

Well, it’s not a public school and has tuition nearing $45,000 a year. There will be a lot of rich kids there. But that’s true of any elite private school in DC, and NCS is Big 3. It’s not exactly in the closet about what kind of institution it is, and of the Big 3 it is probably the most conservative, because conservatives don’t send their kids to GDS and Sidwell, at least not in large numbers.

You can find an unhappy person at every institution. Doesn't mean much.

I'm not opining on NCS one way or the other, but you honestly don't think that some schools have a higher percentage of happy (or unhappy) students than others?

When the URM tells you they haaated the school and that it was full of rich, entitled and clueless white kids you take notice. And, I must say, she was very nice and polite about the whole thing. I didn't detect any chip on the shoulder or anything like that. She just provided a candid and honest appraisal of the school and her experience. I think that counts more than anonymous opinions of DCUM parents.

I honestly think so. When I was choosing schools with my daughter, I chose to try to ignore the posts talking about the toxic atmosphere at NCS and tried to focus on the positive. That being said, the reputation ended up being not far off the mark and my daughter is truly happier at another school. Many parents voiced similar feelings about the school-many of them current parents still. These reputations are not created from nothing. It doesn’t mean your daughter can’t be happy there. But the truth is that they’re not overly concerned with your happiness.

What is your point of these posts? We understand that you don’t like Ncs and the Uber driver did not like Ncs. I feel badly that she had a bad experience. I don’t understand why you keep harping on it. A lot of kids have bad experiences at all schools, including public schools.

I'm confused. How is your unverified account of this so-called URM alum's experience any less anonymous or any more credible than the posts of anyone else on DCUM?
