At least, that is what my son and his friends are doing.

These are neighborhood friends? We don’t have other 8th grade kids on our street. Your neighborhood sounds fun.

When my son was in 8th and 9th grade he mostly stayed home to decompress from school, or sports practice. 6th and 7th grade he was always hanging out with friends. 10th and 11th grade I never see him hes always with his buddies.

Attend high school sports event, play his own sport, have a friend over, video games, snap chat girls, virtual reality, ping pong, movie, sometimes mall movie and dinner with friends and girls. All pretty normal

This is an 8th grade boy? Our DS doesn’t have any social media accounts and doesn’t hang out at the mall or with girls. So if this is “all pretty normal” my DS isn’t quite there. He just turned 13 this summer and he’s much more likely to play Fortnite with a friend ona Friday night is your son in 8th grade at a public school or a private one?

I think both of these are "normal." At my DS's private, there's a group of 8th grade boys who hang out with friends, girls, on social media, etc. (these are the "faster" kids -- dating, vaping, etc.), and then there's a group who hang out with their friends playing Fortnite. My DS is in the latter group, but I think both are normal for 13-14 year old boys.

My 8th grader usually plays Fortnite on weekend nights and looks forward to being able to do that without homework or an early bed time. I'm in no hurry for him to be hanging out with friends and girls in other peoples basements. High School will be here soon enough.

Private school. Kids mature at different stages. Not having social media though is definitely outlier.

I guess don’t find it odd that 14 year old boys are on social media with girls.

Agree. My son in 8th was in the Fortnite crowd, no girls etc. summer between 8th and 9th that all changed. Both seem “normal” to me. Girls are a big deal for most boys freshman year.

Same with my son. He likes to stay up later and sleep in. And play Fortnite.

I think a lot has to do with how far into puberty they are.

My youngest goes to gymnastics on Friday nights.

Boys???

Sounds like girls.

Varies. Tonight he’s home chilling out and playing Fortnight online with friends and will be in bed soon for sports games tomorrow. Saturday’s he will have a friend or two over and hang out, eat a lot, play fortnight, sometimes go to movies. If there’s a dance he goes with friends. No girls and not vaping or anything. Op some kids need to chill on the weekends. I sometimes encourage him to reach out to friends and they always accept his invite. You could encourage him to invite a few friends over or take him to Benihana or something. Sometimes they get shy about initiating plans.

Same. He hangs out with friends after school and then dinner, then fortnite. He has sleepovers occasionally (more Fortnite) and the occasional School dance.

My 8th graders hang out with each other on line after sports practice, like in Discord groups for gaming.
