Be careful biking with your family

Doesn’t seem like an appropriate road for a family bike ride with such a little biker. Maybe they’re only on it for a very short distance to get from their house to a quieter street or a trail, but cars go pretty fast, there are hills and curves, no bike lanes. Yeesh.

BTW - how did you get the dashboard camera and how can we get one. This was similar to the Russian crash videos on youtube.

Glad the kid is still unharmed and alive. The parents require some knocks on their heads for being idiots.

But the other stopped car was. As well as cross walk. And the dad looking backwards into crosswalk.

If there is no stop sign or flashing lights, drivers typically do not stop at the cross walk. I don’t think you have to, correct? And it looks like the father had safely made it across so the truck that was stopped, blocked the view.

If someone is in the crosswalk, you are required to stop. Now it could be argued that the small child wasn't seen in the crosswalk but if they should have seen her crossing from the left and seen the car in the turn lane stopped at the crosswalk.

DRIVERS:

Failure to stop for pedestrian in crosswalk (21-502)

A driver of a vehicle must come to a complete stop when a pedestrian is crossing the roadway in a crosswalk.

Did you watch the video?? They were on a bike trail. Simply crossing the busy road to return to the trail.

But, the driver with the camera was stopped with hazard lights on (could hear the clicking in the video). Other drivers need to respond/question why this is, and slow down and scan the scene.

Absolutely true, but irrelevant if your kid gets hit because you weren’t taking every reasonable precaution in crossing.

I tell my kids to assume every driver is oblivious because only one has to be for you to be dead.

But if the child got hit, would the car be at fault? I don’t see why it actually would

Yes car would be at fault. You must STOP for people on the cross walk. If I am driving, I slow down until I can see there is no one in the crosswalk. The kid did the right thing by waiting to see if the car would stop

I've seen this happen with kids so many times when I've stopped to let them cross. Idiot drivers can't figure out why on earth all these other cars are stopped *at a freaking crosswalk* and plow through. I've considered pulling my car over to block both lanes when I see a kid trying to cross to keep a-holes like this from killing someone.

Apparently you don't know that it is the law to stop for pedestrians at or in a crosswalk???

I did, but didn’t see that they were on a trail. I thought they’d been riding on the sidewalk. My attention was focused on the action.

That is so scary!! The diver was 100% in the wrong.

At the same time, bikes should be WALKED across traffic lanes. Is this not a thing anymore? Her parents should have also accompanied the small child across the road.

If the plates are legible, can the police ticket the car?
