| Northwood has a very good GTLD program, but I'm not sure how it integrates with the MC2 program. I would contact the MC2 program director, and he can talk to you about it. I doubt you'd find anyone on this board with that specific experience. |
|
I know at least one student who was accepted to CAP But chose MC2. It’s essentially guaranteed admittance to UMCP as a junior when you graduate HS! Never heard of any other program that can match that.
|
I think several MCPS schools offer it. Wheaton and Northwest also have AA degree programs. Maybe others? |
Thank you, so much. This was exactly the kind of feedback that I was looking for. |
A number of MCPS high schools offer concurrent enrollment, where students can take college courses at MC or taught at their school by MC instructors. But only Northwood (downcounty) and Northwest (upcounty) offer the full AA degree program while in high school, with guaranteed admission to UMD. |
My neighbor’s child just graduated from that program last year. You get an associates degree from Montgomery College so you automatically get into UMD College Park because they recognize the Associiates form Montgomery college so you start off as a junior. |
| If you are zoned for Northwood you can automatically do the program as long as you have met the pre requisites. I’m assuming there is some sort of application process if you are not zones for Northwood. |
But not the limited programs like engineering..you still need to apply to them |
If you meet the prerequisites you put northwood as first in the lottery. It’s not really an application. |
| Did anyone hear back from them after the application? Thanks |
That is correct. My child put Northwood first on the choice form and he is in. I think everyone that put it first got it. |
|
I heard that it is not a guaranteed admission into UMCP. Does anyone know if that's the case? Is it written somewhere that it's guaranteed admission?
|
My understanding is that an AA degree from a MD community college is guaranteed admission to UMCO. |
Be very careful. In many cases you actually cannot! I have looked at their CS programs and Cyber Security - almost no classes that would transfer to UMD CP. May be would transfer to different school.... Do not assume that if program approved by MCPS and MC, it would be useful for UMD CP. Look at transferability class by class, you will be shocked. |
AP classes are much easier particularly on Math courses. That’s why many colleges don’t accept APs anymore |
