I'm the original Keto poster and preach it! I was so bummed when I realized how many carbs were in broccoli and the hidden ones in shredded cheeses that have starch and .. oh the other million things. But you are so right.. as someone who never missed breakfast for the first 35 years of her life, it is very bizarre to have a stomach rumble, look at the clock and see that's it's 3:15. I never understood those people who said they "forget to eat" .. until now. |
Do you own a bicycle? |
| Not OP, but in the same boat. I keep going "Keto? Really"? But the poster that said 98 days until New Years made a compelling point. Maybe I should just give it a whirl. I'm not super-overweight, but sure would like to lose the 20lbs of "babyweight" that I've had for 6 years. The problem is, I'm pretty busy and social and don't like to be disruptive or draw attention to myself when it comes to diets or food choices. Is there a streamlined way of doing this? Do you just eat the same thing every day and avoid dining out or parties for awhile? If you forget and eat some corn or something, does it all go to hell? |
| Previous poster. Another thing that scares me a little is that I don't really eat meat. Is this still doable? |
I also want to add that I’m doing intermittent fasting. Basically it means I skip breakfast and eat lunch and dinner. It is supposed to be done during an eight hour window. It works out perfectly for my lifestyle as I don’t eat late dinners and I rarely snack. It’s easy to have a calorie deficit by filling up and vegetables and skipping breakfast. I tried fasting two days out of the week where you don’t eat anything at all but I just didn’t have the willpower not to eat. |
Broccoli is not a carb heavy vegetable. It’s completely appropriate for a keto lifestyle. |
Absolutely not. She can barely make it through 12 hours -- she's not going to make Whole 30. It's nucking futs. |
+1 I don’t have great willpower either, but with IF I tell myself “it’s not no, it’s later”. Sometimes I still have whatever it was after noon and sometimes I don’t. |
| Turn into a food snob. That helps a lot. No greasy doughnuts, no ghetto juice, just eat clean. |
For me, it was the pre-diabetes notation on my bloodwork that did it. I got serious in a hurry. |
| Bump to getting a buddy, and figuring out a change that is appealing to you. My little tricks (that I had to go back to after gaining some weight) BRUSH YOUR TEETH! I have a problem with snacking after dinner/kid bedtime/cleaning up... I'm forcing myself to brush my teeth before I go downstairs to finish cleaning up, and that's a HUGE help in curbing the snacking - a total willpower bump. |
| Maybe you need to readjust the way you are approaching your goal. Instead of trying to lose 40 pounds at once, maybe try breaking it into more achievable goals of 10 lbs at a time? When I had my second son, I was weighing around 205 lbs at delivery. My starting weight when I got pregnant was 165, which was 20 lbs higher than what I weighed when I had my first son. I lost the first 30 lbs really fast in the first month or so without any effort. I went from 175 to 165 by doing weight watchers. I went from 165 to 155 by sticking with weight watchers and adding in regular Peloton rides. I stayed from 152-155 for a long time, and finally dropped down to my current weight of 145 by continuing to do Peloton bike rides, adding in a few Peloton boot camps, and tracking my food intake on MyFitnessPal. I’ve been at 145 for a while and would love to get down below 140 and keep my weight around 138. It has taken me over a year and a half to get where I am, and I’ve had lots of long plateaus along the way with a few pounds gained back and lost again. I really don’t think I would have been successful at losing all of this weight at one shot, and I tell myself its easier to keep off since it has come off slowly for a year and a half. |
| The new ww program is great. Nothing processed at all! I've lost 25 pounds, nice and slow, which all studies say will help the pounds stay off better/longer, since Feb. Now back to my pre-wedding weight. I am mid-40s now. |

OP here. Thank you for the feedback. It's great to hear I'm not the only one without willpower and also encouraging to hear others have done it.
I will give Keto a try. Can we start a support group here? I know I can go on Reddit, but I love DCUM. |

Do you have any experience with meditation? I know it sounds a little out there, but when I want to eat something that goes against my best interest I take a moment and breathe. Then I imagine a bright red light at the base of my spine (root chakra), and I think about being secure and nourished. Then I move up to my belly and imagine a strong orange light (sacral chakra).
I think these two are the most important for will power, but there are many online resources (and apps of you want to listen through your headphones at work) that may help you with mindfulness. |
