| Maret ends at 4th... there's a little time to hang out after lunch, but not much |

Do these schools that end recess or replace it with study hall have PE every day?
We have one at a private that doesn't have a formal recess but gives the boys about 65 minutes to eat lunch and do what they want. Sometimes they play basketball or football, sometimes they study, play chess or play cards. But it is time that is theirs and they at least have to go outside in order to get to the lunchroom no matter the weather! I know that MCPS ends recess in 6th, but they have daily PE. |
That is terrible |
| Holton has recess until 7th, but then they have 1 hour for lunch in middle School and last period is mandatory sports which equals their PE. Lots of options for non athletes. Dance, badminton, yoga, etc... But most do competitive sports. It is a nice balance. |
+1. And it’s a long day from 8 am to 330. At least, The 6th through 8th graders at least get sports Monday through Thursday at end of day but they want the younger ones to have extra study hall or advisory. |
I have no experience with Halton. However, I do know that recess is important for all ages. Teenage energy levels tend to be high. Exercise lowers pent-up energy. Kudos to schools like Halton for leading the way. |
| I frequently see upper school kids kicking soccer balls and stuff around in the green spaces during their breaks. It always makes me smile to see them goofing around outside and enjoying the day and each other. |
| never, I played soccer outside with coed pickup K-6. and then moved schools and still had "recess" for 7 an d8th. |
There's PE at Maret 4x/week in 5th and 6th grade and 3x/week 7th & 8th grade (which is sports at the end of the day) |
But no recess? |
|
We have recess every day until 8th grade.after 8th grade no more recess.
|
Same at St. Anselm's. |
Same here, even 8th graders still have recess. |
|
SSSAS one hour for lunch and recess through 8th.

Still? When I went to SR from a parochial in 1984 this was the case. I had really hoped that changed. It IS both developmentally inappropriate and sexist. Ugh. |
