Sounds like a fun group!

The PARCC isnt telling you much and is probably MORE subjective than other tests.

To me this is evidence that the parcc is helpful. You know the one who does poorly in school isn’t stupid - so what’s going on that’s making school difficult? You know the one that’s doing great in school isn’t a good test taker - that’s going to matter at some point, how can you help him? What skills does he need?

I care about internationally normed test scores. How many countries are still giving PARCC anyway?

Our kids don't take any internationally normed tests but maybe they should.

+1 Sounds like a recipe for disaster. There was one little girl who liked to go around telling the other kids that she was testing 2 years above grade level in reading. It was "charming."

Can you explain why you feel the PARCC scores are subjective?

NP. I'm not sure about "subjective" but I do think it measures different things than MAP and other tests so it's a helpful measure. DC1 is an excellent student and very creative, very high Cogat, does just okay on the PARCC. I think it's because there are written components where they are expecting a certain formulaic answer. DC2 is an average student , also with a very high Coat, who is good at regurgitating answers. Scores extremely high on the PARCC. Both kids are bright but bright in different ways.

Subjective in that your score depends on the assessors determination of whether you showed your work *in the prescribed manner they asked for.*
They also need to manipulate the interface in a way that younger students may have trouble with (highlighting text, dragging and dropping, etc)

These are good points, except the one who does miserably on PARCC does great on in class tests and MAP

Is this a new thing where PARCC scores are mailed home? I thought they were given to the students in their home folder sometime in October.

I think so, too. My child scored 99% on the spring MAP, but, for PARCC, math, surprisingly, was her lowest score, in the low 5s, according to that graph. I am wondering what's up with that.

Same with my kid at RPMS.

But I think it's just the tracked kids in compacted math, the two highest reading groups, etc. My kid's PARCC scores weren't anything special. No clue how/why my kid has been tracked differently. My kid's test scores have always been barely above average. Maybe that's the bar at our elementary? The reading/writing scores at our elementary were low.

This was DS’s first year taking PARCC. He scored a level 5 in both trading and math. He is also going to the center for enrichment this fall. I do wish as others have pointed out that PARCC would be hanged to something that is nationally aligned besides the MAP Scores.

Sorry PP, reading and math not trading and math.

Should I call the school to ask when will we receive our PARCC scores?

Maybe they don't want anything nationally normed because it would expose their flaws.

For the PARCC test does it test on grade level math? My child is in an advanced math and unlike the MAP test, the PARCC says they are testing on grade level. They didn't do great on the PARCC, but do well on MAP which is supposed to be a higher level since they are advanced so that is a little strange. Thanks
