Mistake on MCPS calendar?

Nov 7th is the end of the first marking period and I am guessing that Nov 12 and Nov 13 are parent teacher conferences. In previous years the parent teacher conference days are only early release days for K-Grade 8.
Does anyone know if this is a typo or a change in MCPS policy? I am really hoping it is a typo. It is not easy for me to pick up my child on early release days (I drive ds to and from a magnet HS and the closest magnet bus stop is not walking distance from our house) and having three in a month is going to be really tough.

Also not to derail this thread but I noticed that in addition to shortening spring break to Wednesday April 17-22, they have April 17 and 18th designated as contingency instructional days if schools are closed for three or more days. Not sure how to plan for college visits etc. if we end up with a Spring "break" from Friday April 19 - Monday April 22.
This is really frustrating.

Not a typo. And your HS student should really be able to get to and from school on their own without you driving. Public transport, Uber/Lyft, bicycle, long walk. Or just let them hang out near the high school until later.

Just have your DC go home with a friend that day. Pick him up from a friend later.

This is a strange level of angst for something that is 3 months away for a high schooler.

OP, just plan the college trip and if your son misses some class time, then he misses some class time. I'm sure teachers will expect lots of kids to be absent those days. Families are going to make plans for that week regardless of the potential for additional snow-caused instruction days. Like PPs said, see if he can go home with a friend or if you can trade off rides home with another family. If there's a library near your kid's school, maybe have him go there until you can come get him.

Thank you for your great advice . We will figure out the early release days. He will probably ride the bus to friends houses and I will pick him up after work from Potomac or Rockville or wherever! It is a hassle but that’s ok. We will probably just make our Spring break plans and deal with it if Wednesday and Thursday get canceled. I have to find out whether two unexcused absences could affect his grades though. I seem to remember that kids who walked out to protest gun violence were warned that after a certain number of unexcused absences (4?) you fail the class. Thanks. Appreciate the sensible advice

He should be able to take a city bus home (or Uber/Lyft). He's a junior for Pete's sake. My junior will be 17 by November. It's his responsibility to get home.

Unfortunately there isn't bus service from everywhere to everywhere in the county, even during peak travel times, let alone in the middle of the day.

However, I agree that between now and November, it should be possible to figure something out!
