here's info on what happened to Fairfax County's clinics:
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/flu/h1n1-vaccine-distribution.htm Due to delays in the production of 2009 H1N1 vaccine, the Fairfax County Health Department is adjusting its mass vaccination plans to match the limited supply of vaccine currently available, which is significantly less than anticipated. We currently do not have enough vaccine available to hold the vaccination clinics that were scheduled to be held in 10 Fairfax County Public Schools on Oct. 24 and 25. Instead, the amount of vaccine currently available will be distributed as follows: •Children (age range to be defined later this week) and pregnant women •Saturday, Oct. 24 •Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax The 2009 H1N1 vaccine will be voluntary and available on a walk in basis, free of charge. The delay in distribution of 2009 H1N1 vaccine has impacted the entire nation and has resulted in uneven availability. In the coming weeks, more vaccine is expected to be delivered to health care providers, hospitals, and local health departments. Residents may check with their heath care providers about the availability of 2009 H1N1 vaccine. |

| I agree - the information from Fairfax county is too unpredictable and contradictory. My family will be going to the Arlington clinic tomorrow. |
| Children's Hospital had the H1N1 shots (but are now out.) They do have the mist. |
Thank you! I went this morning and got my son vaccinated. They are not vaccinating parents who do not fit priority groups. |
Which parents are considered "priority groups"? |
Pregnant women, those caring for newborns, those with chronic illnesses. Have you been living under a rock? |
Which Children's? Inova or National? |
I'm with you. I thought the high-risk kids were the younger ones - so Arlington put a priority on school-age kids. While I think doing through schools is efficient, it is frusterating for parents of younger kids. Why are pediatrician offices one of the first to get it? Or why don't the schools have a way of allowing younger kids to get it? |
| For those in DC, some OB offices have the vaccine and are prioritizing their pregnant patients. It seems pediatricians in DC are not getting the vaccine (at least my daughter's isn't), so you have to go to the mass vaccination clinics to get the vaccine. Those clinics are starting today at various schools throughout the city with priority for children and pregnant women. |
Sorry, I posted this and then saw all the info on Arlington. I just looked at their site a few days ago and nothing. Suddenly a clinic open up - the day my son gets sick I don't think it is Swine flu, but I can't be taking him out in public to get a vaccine either.

The Arlington County walk-in clinic does not have any vaccine for kids that are under two-years old. I know because I tried to take my 18-month old there this morning and was told that they did not have the pediatric vaccine for kids under two. They only have the nasal spray mist. And that they don't know when or if they will get it. They had me put my name and phone number on a piece of notebook paper with some other names on it and told me they would call me if anything changes.
I agree with the pp poster about the information out of Arlington on the flu vaccine sucks. Maybe not for school children and their parents, but certainly for the rest of us. I am pregnant so it wasn't a totally wasted trip and I got my shot. The way I found out about the clinic - DC urban moms forum. I walked in the clinic and got vaccinated 10 minutes later so the word has not yet gotten out. I guess I should be thankful. |
They will not vaccinate the UNDER 3 YEAR OLDS. I know because I brought my 2 year old there today and we were turned away. Your child must be at least 3 to receive a vaccine at the Arlington County walk-in clinic. |
| Can someone who has been today please be clear on whether or not they're giving the mist or injectible, it's a little unclear in these posts? DD is three so she won't get turned away, but she does have a cold and the ped. said to only get the injectible if she still has her cold when vaccinated. |
they do have the injectible, at least when i was there. my son has asthma so that's what he got. |
