Does C2 work

My kid really improved using C2… but she has inattentive ADHD and never would have been successful using a workbook/khan on her own. Once she was fine with the SAT, we used credits to work on college essays.

Did the tutoring 1:3 model work for her with her adhd? Isn't it distracting if her tutor is working with some other kids nearby/kids who maybe don't have same condition as her?

C2 is horrible - the tutors are OK but management is bad - money grabbers) -and most importantly their materials are out dated. They dont even teach using Desmos for SAT Math.

On top of that they charge by hr or have a summer bootcamp for 2 months that costs $3000+

Just use Khan and CollegeBoard Resources.

and yes the 1:3 model is so wasteful..

She said it actually helped her over time learn to tune out kids in her regular classes during the school day. At first, it was a little brutal to be honest but over time for whatever reason it helped.

Getting high score on the SAT come down to how much $$ you're willing to spend to get your child ready. It is the "have more" and "have" versus the "have not". If I am going to spend 50k to prepare a child for SAT prep, an below average child can easily gets a very high SAT score. That's exactly what I did with my kids. Before the SAT prep, the rising senior and junior scored 1090 and 1100, respectively. After the SAT prep, the rising senior and junior scores 1590 and 1580, repsectively. Both got perfect SAT score in physics and biology. It cost me about 30k for both kids for 1 on 1 SAT prep.

Am I happy about this? No but it is the reality in today environment.

$50k???

This isn't like athletics where club memberships and equipment costs add up - a motivated student can use free/cheap resources to skyrocket their score. 1600.io, Erica Meltzer, sat prep black book, the official SAT question bank. (The first two followed by the third followed by the fourth).

Why not just pay someone just to body double? That would be significantly cheaper.

+1

The child of a family friend went to C2 Bethesda for SAT prep and had a really great result.

We were hesitant about signing DC up at C2 because DC has inattentive ADHD, a mild math learning disability, and we couldn’t find any reviews about C2’s digital SAT prep (our friend took the paper SAT). DC had great tutors at C2 and the structure of having to go to class really helped DC study. We were very pleased with DC’s final SAT score.

There's a ceiling to improvement, due to:
1. Your child's IQ.
2. Your child's motivation.

Just remember that even with all the goodwill and money in the world, 2 cannot overcome 1. You need to know your child well enough that you can tell when they hit their ceiling and it's not use continuing to pay and labor at the test prep.

Huh? These is no such thing as a SAT score in physics or biology.

My DD, who is an excellent student t but did poorly on the SATs, didn’t see much improvement. The value for her was that they offered some tutoring in calculus and also assistance with writing when she needed/wanted it and by at least trying to improve her scores through the program, she felt she had done everything she could to prepare. She ended up applying TO and had excellent options with excellent merit aid.

Am considering C2 in Bethesda. I was quoted a range of cost per hour ($75-85/hr). Had my child do the diagnostic and then met with the person to understand the results and see what might work best. Turns out, as others have said, you buy packages with 50 hours at $110/hr being the cheapest/ fewest hours. The person also said that based on the diagnostic, they were confident that my child would get a 1500 on the test. The diagnostic score was 1270. Given the bait and switch of the cost, I’m concerned that everything they say is a lie. I do understand that they can’t guarantee a score but don’t want to pay over $5000 stupidly. My child really liked them. I appreciate the reviews here and on another thread. Other than Prep Matters and self study, are there other recommendations? My child prefers in person.

DP. If this was a few years ago PP probably means the SAT Subject Tests aka SAT II which were offered in those subjects. Discontinued around 2021/covid era I think

+1. Does your kid's school have names of tutors? Once upon a time.we were told there was Sylvan Learning (sp?) somewhere in Bethesda forgot where. Are they around and do they offer in-person one on one tutoring? There are other discussions on this forum with test prep recommendations. One was for an in-person group class Capitol Ed or something. Everest tutoring was mentioned further north Rockville maybe. Not sure if they offer in-person. People say to compare before you commit to this one.

C2 is fine. It helped my child out with AP classes and test prep for AP exams.

We didn’t use them consistently since my child was so busy over the summer. I ended up getting my kid a private tutor. I prefer 1:1 vs their 1:3. I’m sure if my kid went to C2 multiple times per week for the entire summer, it would have helped. We are currently doing 2 hours with tutor and then DS probably does 2-5 hours per week. He started off at 1300 PSAT, got a 1470 SAT trying to get to 1550 SAT.
