Chevy Chase MD - Neighborhoods?

Village of Chevy Chase is the original CC. If you live in CC you know this, because lots of Village residents are "offended" if you say Chevy Chase and you don't live in the Village.

That they are offended says a lot about what Village residents are like.

I grew up in CheCheVi and while I have a lot of feelings about the place, its history, and the people who live there, no one has ever, ever been "offended" by someone saying "Chevy Chase" and not meaning the village. Mostly because it's not true, obviously, as "Chevy Chase" is much larger than the village. It makes no sense. It's not even a good fake story.

Some better fake stories:

- I know a guy who moved in and tried to borrow a lawn mower - no one on his block owned one, but one woman offered to loan him her guy.
- My mom lives there and she likes it because when she calls the Village Police about unfamiliar cars on her block they come right away.
- Our neighbor had a heart attack on his lawn but he was saved because there was a USSS car parked nearby that had a defibrillator.

PP1 - its actually Chevy Chase Village, not the Village of ... . I am a long term resident and would not feel the least bit offended if someone in, say, Section 3 says that they live in Chevy Chase. That’s ridiculous. They do. It would be ridiculous to say they live in the Village, simply because it would be an odd lie. Frankly, I consider many of the streets in Sections 3, 4 and 5 to be even more charming than many of those in the Village.

So gracious of you. Typical of the Village.

We live in another CC neighborhood. Years ago, I was driving my then high-school kid and friend in carpool. As we turned into Kenwood, with its marvelously manicured lawns, a voice piped up from the back seat "Kenwood . . . the poor man's Potomac." The quick-witted response, "Somerset, . . . the poor man's Kenwood."

I lived in Chevy Chase Village for 15 years and had no idea the other sections weren't in the Village until right now. I thought it went the whole way to E-W Highway.

Very funny. I live in so-called "Chevy Chase West," which is the poor man's Somerset.

I live in Brookdale, so I have no skin in the prestige game, but I have always thought Kenwood is a really random neighborhood. Sure, the houses are big, but it’s not near anything, has no sidewalks, doesn’t have a community pool to tie it together, is split between different elementary schools, etc. It wouldn’t be my choice even if I had $3M to spend on a big house with a big yard.

This is hilarious. I live in CC but not one of the named neighborhoods. We had a similar incident to #1 fake story. When we moved in, we discussed how cool it was to mow the lawn after years and years of not having one. I lost track at the number of people who quietly let us know that we did not have to do it ourselves and gave us the name of their guy.

I think the country club and the neighborhood were developed together.
