Looks like NOVA won Amazon HQ

Another city entirely would be good, but I'm rooting for anywhere but Arlington. I live in Arlington.

It would be absurd for them not to choose this site. But yes, keep it out of Arlington.

Just a small note, for those hoping that HQ2 goes to Virginia. Your costs for Amazon purchases will go up as you would then be required to pay taxes on your purchases. I live in MD and I remember how nice it was not to pay taxes on Amazon purchases until they bought the distribution center in Baltimore. Then we were subject to taxes on purchases. Since we buy a lot on Prime, it does add up over the year. Not something that breaks the bank, or changes our buying patterns, but it does add up. And for those with lower incomes, it's can affect their buying pattern.

Amazon has been charging taxes on all orders for quite a long time now.

Virginians already pay taxes on Amazon purchases!

Employees said otherwise

Let's assume OP didn't make this up entirely. What makes you think these employees are in the know? I assume there is a pretty narrow group of people who know the decision, assuming one has even been made.

Kind of crazy that people are taking an anonymous posting about a report from unnamed employees as worth anything.

+1 no way some rando employees would be in the know and be spouting off to people outside the company. The regular Amazon employees will find out when the rest of us do.

Me too. Arlington is way overcrowded. In fact, I told my DC co-workers that I hope it goes to MoCo. Then their commutes will suck instead of people in VA.

Amazon does have a small fulfillment warehouse here in the area, the location is just escaping me at the moment (Dulles or Sterling).

One also just opened in the Winchester area as well (or is opening soon). A coworker's non-neurotypical son got a job there.

I feel sorry for all those who already have to use 28 and 7 for their travel. The traffic from an Amazon location will make both of those roads more unbearable than they already are.

On the plus side, maybe the land they've bought will include those rundown homes on Rock Hill Rd. Such an eyesore each time I go that way to drop off my dog at daycare off Rock Hill.

And the Supreme Court just issued a ruling that will likely lead all states to taxing online purchases like other sales, regardless of the physical presence.

Ditto for hoping Maryland gets Amazon instead of VA. The traffic sucks here and would push my commute to be even more nightmarish. I do hope that the toll prices might go down though. Let MD get some bad traffic as it stands MD isn't so bad with commuting traffic because its a pretty well planned out state with multiple back exits and ways to travel without toll fees.

They should just locate the distribution center next to my house.

No chance it goes to MoCo with Elrich likely taking over and a chance of Jealous as governor. Why would they pick another area that views corporations as one big piggy bank? They already have that in Seattle.

There was an article that it is for AWS to move to. That is really going to suck as it’s further out for those who commute from MD.

You are clearly unfamiliar with South Dakota v Wayfair. That’s changing for everyone even if true today (often not).

Ugh... DH is considering a job with AWS but this would more than double his commute.
