It only gets about 14% of students from Virginia. It isn't just for good ole boys. W&L is an very selective, high quality school. Their graduates do well. There is a report from the Center of Education and the Workforce that rates schools based on their value add in earnings. It essentially compares expected earnings to actual. Expected earnings are based on selectivity and mix of majors (some majors like engineering make significantly more, at least shorter term). W&L ranks #4 nationwide and easily first in Virginia. thehttps://cew.georgetown.edu/cew-reports/college-rankings/ |
Do you know how this works with their engineering department not being accredited? |
| ^^I mean, I can google accredited vs. not, but I thought that a degree from a non-accredited school wouldn't land you many jobs and certainly not a high-paying one. According to Google. |
I wasn't speaking about W&L engineering specifically. If you have questions about their placement I'd reach out to the department. https://www.wlu.edu/physics-and-engineering-department/after-graduation |
| All else being equal, I’d hire from W&L. |
Unlike your own virtue signalling in your post? I suspect most white kids and white parents aren't going to agonize over whether a school is only X% minority versus Y% minority. |
No idea what that even means. Guessing you don’t ether. |
DP. Maybe not, but given where things are in the country and our increased awareness of such matters, having the name Lee there isn’t a plus. |
Shrugs. Likewise I don't think most care either. W&L is doing just fine and dandy. And I say this as someone with absolutely no affiliation with W&L and went to one of the most liberal colleges in the US. |
| CMC is far more prestigious than W&L. Forget the rankings....W&L is a second tier regional LAC. |
I don't have a dog in this fight, but that statement is just not supported by the facts. |
Riiight. And the other half of the student body? |
| Both fantastic. Go visit. |
| Claremont is generally considered more conservative than comparable small liberal arts colleges, I think in part because of the conservative Claremont Institute, though it is not officially affiliated with the University. Both are excellent schools that are likely to offer the most bang for the buck on their respective coasts -- as others have said W & L is very Southern and Greek with a very strong alumni network. |

Recent W&L alum.
Go somewhere else. It's not worth the money. |
