Allison's storyline is so lame. I was pretty over her last season, too. "You saved my life." Please. I want to shout at that poor cute Iraq Vet STAY AWAY! She is nothing but trouble, and not worth it!!

And since when is Luisa an illegal immigrant? How did she and Cole get legally married? it just feels like something they came up with so she can be mad at him all the time, again (well that and the continued hatred for Allison).

Since the beginning. She told him the night they first met and were talking at the beach club she worked at. It’s part of why she was so pissed at Scotty dealing while she was on the boat with him. I’m guessing she uses a fake SSN but I don’t remember them addressing that.

The actress who plays Luisa is good.

Ok I vaguely remember that..but I guess they never addressed it again over several seasons and it just doesn’t make much sense now that it seems contrived. Again, why is that Cole’s fault? Or is she just never going to forgive him about Allison?

She is not the love of his life and she knows that. She can never give him a child and that is a bond he’ll only share with Allison.

But why do all of these men find Allison and Helen so irresistible? I don’t get it. To the extent that lives are ruined, and caution is thrown to the wind. Doesn’t matter what they do: lie, cheat, steal, kill. It’s getting a bit ridiculous.

Yeah. I do not like Allison at all. She is a self absorbed sociopath. She destroys lives of the men she is with. She also isn't traditionally attractive so I am confused why these story-lines are centered around every man she meets wanting to be with her.

FWIW My husband also thought she was attractive in Season 1. She probably has this waifish-white girl-save me look that guys find irresistible.

Loved the first season but since then it has been increasingly annoying. I found the professor talking sex at dinner with her graduate students to be incredibly unrealistic and irritating. Unrealistic in that anyone knows that that is inappropriate behavior in this day and age. Anyway, I was going to swear off this show for this season but have been tempted to check it out again. I'm so glad I read this thread. I will be strong and not even get started. Must. Not. DVR.

I actually really love Helen.

She's so cool, down to earth and not prissy.

Noah is an idiot, although she does have insufferable parents and caters to their whims to a fault.

I do sort of find it unrealistic that a young-ish hot shot INDIAN doctor would choose to settle down with a middle aged mom, her crazy husband who is addicted to drugs and her brood of 4.

That would NEVER happen.

He would marry a hot young Indian dentist.

I think Noah’s description of her in the book is why these men are attracted to her. He said something like she is sex. Her unstable mental state attracts men with savior complexes and she draws them in with her sexuality.

She isn’t obviously sexy along the lines of Selma Hayek or Kate Upton though. Shes talk, skinny, has bad skin and looks like she needs a shower.

And season 4 Allison is mentally stable but she apparently still needs a man to save her..

Salma Hayek and Kate Upton look cartoonish. Ruth Wilson (Alison) looks like a girl next door. Well, she did in the early seasons. Her face has gotten more and more odd looking, with her weird mouth and severe eyebrows. And now she dresses frumpy I suppose in an effort to be taken serious (although interesting how once again from a man's perspective she appeared the exact opposite of how she saw herself).

Helen'service husband is Egyptian not Indian. I dated and Egyptian doctor. He was Catholic. Egyptianso can be Catholic. Maybe he always wanted a big family. At his age he has an instant family of 4 kids with Helen. I thought she was glowing according to the neighbor, and she could be pregnant. Then Vik collapsed in the bathroom.

I think Allison is very attractive to certain men.

Noah:

From Noah's perspective, it made a lot of sense that he would fall madly in love with her. He spent decades and the formative part of his young adulthood in a marriage with a supremely accomplished, attractive, wealthy, fun, cool, hip, "perfect" Helen. He never felt good enough and was hounded on by his overbearing and condescending in laws. In contrast, Allison was so poor, imperfect, sad and troubled that just being in her mere presence made Noah feel powerful and put together. She was everything he needed at that point in his life. Somehow who was so fragile and obviously flawed that there was no way he could be around her and not feel good about himself. Being around her made him feel strong, capable and put together.

Cole:

Cole is obsessed with being the "good" one. He heads his family business and protects those he loves. Allison was always the "troubled" foil to his perfect "good guy" position in the family. He is attracted to her because she is always a mess and needs stability and order and he feels he can provide that.

Her type of girls are catnip for men like Noah and Cole.
