It'll be fine. 18 year old kids do not want to draw adult attention to themselves. They want to hang out on the beach, body surf, go to arcades, play mini golf, eat chli dogs and cheesy fries.

and drink til they commit and then cry or cry then vomit ? and then repeat again.

Oh my God, I still remember my beach week. There were tons of drugs and kids were having sex everywhere. Also, everybody was drinking and driving. I don’t even know how I survived that week. It helped that I had a boyfriend and went with a huge group of friends. Seriously we ended up sleeping at a different hotel room every night depending on where the party was. We tried to stick together so if one of us was hooking up with someone we would kind of crash at that place. I was so incredibly trashed one night that I almost did acid. Thank goodness my boyfriend was with me and he shooed the person offering me the acid away. There’s no way I would let my kids go to beach week after the experience that I had.

I hope that was sarcasms because, if it isn’t, you are a complete fool.

Ha. And now there are like 5 parents who would allow their kids to go...

Much tamer these days.

No, she and her best friend chose France instead.

It wouldn't happen if parents didn't help it to happen.

I am a psychotherapist who works with teens. Parents would be shocked at what they seemingly innocent, good grade teens are doing. I’m not trying to upset you but you have no idea!

Can someone explain why parents are so hesitant to let their kids do beach week when like 10 weeks later they’ll be drinking, doing drugs, and having sex in college?

These are legal adults and they are heading off to college. Forbidding beach week is only stalling what they are going to do anyway. My own kid is fairly responsible, not a partyer, not the type to bed just anyone. I'm holding out hope that his normal good common sense will prevail.

At least they’ll be legal when they are drinking there!

They go to the beach, drink, get wasted, and hook up. And wander around the streets at night, also wasted.

Because there is another point to college - learning. Kids only go to beach week to get drunk, high, and hook up. There nothing educational about that.
