What skill have you picked up after 50?

An entire new healthcare career. Which made me quickly realize that I should probably learn Spanish, so that's on the agenda in 2018.

I'm casually learning guitar and have promised myself to begin banjo lessons before the year is out.

I also hope to start sport kayaking this year but that may be too ambitious

This empty nest thing actually kind of rocks.

There are multiple learn to row programs in the area, it’s fabulous exercise, gets you out in nature, and makes you feel like a bad ass. I picked it back up mid forties after 30 years off the water.
Another old rower here. I rowed for a year in college in the 70s and decided to try it again in my 50s and took a learn to row class. This is a great way to exercise for old people - none of the twisting or pounding you find in other sports. Plus I get to hang out with people from a wide range of ages. So worth the time!

Yes, I'm really enjoying my 60s!

I’m not quite 50 yet, but a good friend took flying lessons in her 50s and got a pilot’s certificate.

Family member retired from a lifetime of city living and bought a small farm at age 60. Learned all about raising chickens and cows and sheep and goats, and also beekeeping.

My goal is to learn to scuba dive. Might happen before 50, but will likely be later.

ukelele
(I knew 3 chords as a kid, but in my late 50's I got a nice quality uke and learned dozens of chords and songs)

sewing
(I took a basic sewing class in junior high and never thought of sewing for decades (25-60) but made my first quilt over 60 and have really enjoyed making a lot of sewn craft projects in the past year.

cooking
(In my 50s, I learned how to make a lot of quick and tasty vegetarian meals, starting from recipes and then learning how to improvise a lot. Also it's fun to take photos of good-looking dishes and share them with friends/family for extra validation.)

paddleboarding (60)
kayaking (60)

Nothing new yet ... we are still in the middle of child rearing although the end is in sight. Skills I want to pick up: how to play the piano, photography, basic paint/pen & pencil art.

I'm close to 50 and almost an empty nester. I actually would love to go back to school and do something in social work - not full time, but a few full days a week where I can really help people.
I love all the new activities I've seen here so far! Makes me look forward to that empty nest and not fear it.
