Prom After Party Rules

I would make it a sleepover and kids that don’t want to stay have to be picked up by a parent by a certain time. I love the no car rule. I did that for a New Years Eve party my daughter had. I would also assume that they will sneak alcohol into your home.

a fishbowl full of rubbers and lots of plan b for the morning after.

? Teens have no problem doing it in front of each other. If you’re going to let the kids crash then do as a PP advises and put out a bowl of condoms.

Very rare that teenagers would be ok having sex in the open at a party. Another good reason for the no cars rule.

LOL. Keep thinking that!

Do you live in the dc area? I’ve never heard of a school sponsored post prom event.

Our MCPS school has a post-prom event.

Schools PTA organize after prom parties in our HS. I recommend you don't do this. Kids will bring in pot and alcohol. It is like begging for trouble.

Make it a sleepover but with girls sleeping in one room/part of the house & boys sleeping in another.

Yes. Whitman has one for safety reasons—. To avoid all that OP asks about.

Exactly. Why not have the kids go to the school sponsored event? Otherwise, you are asking for trouble.

Several MCPS schools have them. Robinson in Fairfax does too.

At our MCPS school the rule was you could not leave and come back. It was to prevent kids from stashing alcohol in their cars and going outside to drink and then returning.

OP you are being pretty lax and I would make sure you know the alcohol rules and potential fines to you, the host. I’d do bag checks AND bottle checks. The water bottles probably have vodka in them.

I’d set a specific end time.

Breathalyzer is a good idea, no cars is better.

What are the kids going to do activity wise? Our school post prom event had tons of activities to keep the kids busy - casino room, trivia, dancing, etc.

It sounds like a safe idea, but he risk-taking kids just aren’t going to go to a school sponsored after prom event. Only the kids who wouldn’t get into trouble anyway would choose that option.

Do you know everyone who will be coming? Are you limiting numbers or will it be a free for all?

Not true at our MCPS school. Almost all the kids went to post prom. Some skipped prom but went to post prom. The PTA worked hard to make it a fun event.

+1 our PTA said 93% of prom goers came to post prom, plus a good number who didn’t go to the prom came to post prom as well.

If my kid was one of the 7% that DIDN’T go, I’d be concerned.
