Not true at our MCPS school. Almost all the kids went to post prom. Some skipped prom but went to post prom. The PTA worked hard to make it a fun event.

Most of the kids go to post prom. They raffle off big ticket items to entice the kids to go and stay. As the op said, practically every kid goes to post prom photos even if they don’t go to prom. If all the kids go, everyone wants to be there. It is a way of preventing drinking and driving.

Do you live in the dc area? I’ve never heard of a school sponsored post prom event.

My MCPS school had one. In fact, I went to post-prom but not my actual prom.

At post-prom, you had to be in by X and if you left before Y, you'd be ineligible for the raffle for some good stuff, so that got people to stay.

Every FCPS hS does this after graduation, but not after prom
