Seriously, MCPS technology department?!? (teachers signing up for training on PDO)

I'll be the first to complain about the boring sessions being offered that I don't want to attend and can't even sign up for
Anonymous
I think we should all just be subversive and attend these things at random times we didn’t sign up for.

Parent here-MCPS technology aspects are terrible. So much $ spent on such useless nonfunctional content.

There was some confusion at my school about the required number of classes. Before spring break, there was an email listing multiple cultural proficiency classes. This morning (!) we received another email listing REQUIRED classes. What’s your understanding about the number of classes required for a gen-ed elementary classroom teacher (in a school that hasn’t been told they’re piloting something new, which results in additional training)? Is it just the reading class for your grade level?

Who monitors whether youve done the required training?

Is this how they’re going to train you on the new curriculum?!

Probably. And the technology won't work or the network will be down when we attend the required training. They'll send us the PowerPoint and we'll have to train ourselves. That's how these trainings usually go.

I think it's just the reading training and the NGSS if you're in 3rd-5th.

It's one of the required reading trainings (K to 2 or 3 to 5) and the NGSS training for grades 2 and 3.

O.K. Thanks! My grade had NGSS this year. Although the training was minimal. One teacher from each grade was allowed to attend the half-day training session each quarter. I went to quarter 3 training. With quarter 4 upon us, I’m reading and learning as I go. Way too much to attempt to cover in depth in a marking period in my opinion

Parents, you have NO IDEA how bad it is. My staff development specialist has not done a thing, even when I’ve requested materials. This is true for my colleagues too. Maybe there are good ones at other schools. Our “rolling staff meetings” are a joke and everything taught online is so, so bad. And so last minute. And so prone to technological failure.

Jeez. And we’re supposed to trust our kids’ educations to this?! I feel so sorry for all of you.

+100 Another parent here.

So sorry to all you teachers who have to deal with the MCPS BS on a regular basis. Hats off to you - I have no idea how you do it!

Love it. Just show up on random days and say that we signed up for that day but PDO must have messed it up. No one can argue with that.

Thank you. We do our best. We try to drown out the noise and focus on the kids.
