Nysmith usually.

+1. They usually come as one or two kids from a bunch of private schools. Plus a homeschool student or 2. . Nysmith the the only private that ever has enough kids to get them over tsthreshhold— too small a number of students to report for privacy reasons. Some years they are over, some years they are not.

Nysmith has a large number of Asian students and they target TJ.

Now that we have Basis in McLean with a lot of Chinese kids, you will see them making a beeline to TJ as well...although I know a couple of parents that went the other way, pulled kids out of TJ to go to Basis.

Nysmith is literally across the street from Carson.
Obviously there is something in the water in Herndon.

If you mean that Asians like to segregate themselves and focus on academics together, yes.

It always bugs me to see close to 50% of applicants are women, but then have 40% of admittees be women. They did better there this year too. AA and FARMs are the places admission was not more representative.

So much for encouraging girls into STEM.

Girls have been successfully encouraged into STEM, it seems. When I was in college, I was one of two girls in my STEM major, and the other girl switched to business.

There was also a significant increase (from 8 to 23) in the number of Hispanic students admitted, but not Black students.

Honestly, I don't understand why race has to factor in where academics and merits are the criteria for admission!!

Because diversity adds to the educational experience.

How so?

I can understand the equity argument but how does it help the high school educational experience to have racial diversity?

Different backgrounds means different points of view in class discussions. Having to work with kids from different backgrounds on group projects (and there are a lot at TJ). You know, like in the real world.

No, I meant that if a school is good enough to get Asians to pay for its education, it will show good academic results.

That sounds like an article of faith. How does having kids of different colored skin improve a project?

In the real world who will their peers be? And why would going to school with African Americans make you more or less capable of working with African Americans in the real world. Scientists have been working across national and cultural borders for decades, they speak a common language of science and math and I have never seen a working group break down because of a lack of early life exposure to other cultures and races.

I think that the racial breakdown of TJ admissions might be a useful gauge of something but I don't think you try to achieve a particular admission profile, then you're just fiddling with the gauge rather than the thing that is being measured.

Interesting that number of Carson admits actually went down last year - significant increase in Longfellow admits.

DD's BFF is in Carson this year and only knows one kid who didn't get in, so looks like Carson will be up higher this year.
Her mom said that at preview night there were not that many from Loudon this year and only one kid from Fairfax City
Will need to wait to see numbers - not that it really matters....

Longfellow and Rocky Run #s will come down over time w/opening of Cooper AAP and Lanier AAP. The Carson AAP center needs to be broken up as well.

Not sure why you are linking to the old info from last year.

But okay, so Year over year, Carson slip a little, when compared to its own record. But they still outpaced everyone, in all of the years presented, including Longfellow.

Will there be boundary change or addition for Cooper AAP? Not sure where they will pull the student to make up the numbers.

Because the black and white vehemently refuse to pay their tax supporting the Asian kids @ a public magnet school TJ

No worries. They are paying it forward.
Whereby, the Asian kid will become a doctor and save their lives in the future.

If you are white you are fueling ethnic tension. If you are Asian you are racial and condescending.
