We live nearby, and the area is fine. Any gunplay is at night and contained in specific apartment blocks you will never drive by.

Except yesterday’s, I guess, which spanned several blocks and happened mid afternoon.

We lived walking distance to where it's going to be co-located for six years. We didn't move because of violence; we moved because we were in a condo and needed more space. Now that my daughter is in, I wish I still lived over there.

What's a good neighborhood to live in for Stokes EE, east or west of river? Criteria - easy school access, good metro access, some walkability/amenities.

We have found East of the River in Marshall Heights (right near the Benning Road metro stop) to be pretty good (been here since 2014, on H St before that), BUT you are going to find the whole area near the school lacks amenities. The commercial corridors have been turned into housing, so while transportation options (and metro access) is good, the walkability is lacking simply because there is not much to walk to yet.

You might be better off just living anywhere along the Blue/Silver line if you want to be able to walk to things now and can't wait a few years for retailers to notice the area.

+1. We looked at a lot of houses in Marshall Heights a few years back, when we were house hunting. We liked the area a lot.

#12 on waitlist for PreK3 French, #35 for Spanish. I am thinking there will be more movement than at Brookland location as people decide the commute is too far. Well, that is what I am telling myself.

We're in for pre k 3 spanish and so excited. Also #4 WL at brookland which I never expected so we'll see... Stokes EE was our #3 choice and its great to see others as excited as us!

Marched for K Spanish. Waitlisted at Brookland #18 French and #30 Spanish. Not getting my hopes up for Brookland but certainly praying for a miracle to avoid the commute to EE.

In for French K, got a nice phone call today. Does anyone know if there is transfer preference into Brookland?

I think there is a transfer pref from Brookland to EE, not the other way. Confirm with the school.

Matched K for Spanish. Super Excited!

Has anyone seen the inside of this location?

They're saying no transfer this year between locations, and they may not offer it going forward, either. Sounds like they're trying to discourage folks who are planning on exploring the transfer option from signing up.

Yes, the December Open House was held there. We were just a large open room (probably cafeteria/MPR) which was a nice space. It's a larger building so I'm interested to see the build out to accommodate the students.

I ask because I missed the open house and the exterior leaves a lot to be desired. We applied (and got in) based on reputation and wanting language immersion. I was looking for some semblance of outdoor space. I’ll have to wait and see with the build out I guess. I like what the plans are in terms of outdoor garden, playground etc. as stated on their website.
